Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility Details | PS3Blog.net

[Update 17may05: nVidia technology will be licensed by Microsoft in order to help the effort]

Xbox 360The door keeps opening, bit by bit. A little more light at a time is shining on the whole Xbox 360 backwards compatibility thing with the original Xbox. It seems that the ATI graphical chip will have to emulate the original Xbox’s nVidia one. Most of the graphical instructions are pretty simple to handle, but odd cases and proprietary routines will pose more of a problem. It looks like emulation profiles will be stored on the HDD, and those will be used to help emulate the game. So if you have a favourite game without an emulation profile, you’re out of luck. But if Microsoft is good to you, they can make one available via Xbox Live so that you can download it! This Xbox Live thing rocks!

  1. Hey, nice blog. Seems somewhat unbiased, which is hard to come by. Of course “PS3, the Next-Gen King, and Pretenders to the Throne” shows some bias, but I will let it slide given its a PS3 blog πŸ™‚ Check out my 360 wordpress blog at http://www.360hacker.net.
