360 HDD not Required | PS3Blog.net

In an interview with Todd Holmdahl, Corporate Vice President of the Xbox Product Group at Microsoft, team XBOX found out some interesting things. I’ve broken up discussion of this interview into several posts so that there is one post per topic.

Mr. Holmdahl said that the removable hard disc drive on the 360 is not required to play games. So developers will no longer be able to count on the HDD’s existence when developing their games, much like the PS2 and PS3. This takes away one advantage that the Xbox platform had over the Playstation platform, which of course is a boon to Sony.

“Mr. Holmdahl said that the removable hard disc drive on the 360 is not required to play games. So developers will no longer be able to count on the HDD’s existence when developing their games, much like the PS2 and PS3.”

He said the XBOX dont need a HDD to play games (need)

Do you read other news like final fantasy will use the hard drive.

Did you not know you can put full games on to the hard drive.

Did you not read M$ said in the past if you want the best graphics you will need a hard drive but the games would still work with out a hard drive.

The 20GB hard drive is what you will get hard core gamers like me will need a much bigger hard drive.

  • Glen

XBOX live will need a hard drive for down load and stuff.

  • Henning

Glen: I’m not sure of the point you’re trying to make. Sure Final Fantasy needs a hard drive, and the other things you said are true too. But the fact I’m reporting is that the HDD will no longer be something the developers can count on. If they want to depend on a HDD they can, but they might get into trouble if they do.

  • Glen

Every xbox comes with a hard drive so why cant they?

  • Glen

It is also a Sata hard drive it will work better than the hard drive in most PCs today.

I read and post on team xbox every day like a gamer i dont put any system down.. only sony and sony fans talk bad about everything xbox and i have yet to read you talk good about the XBOX 360..

Even if you are a PS3 site you dont have to hate the other systems.

This is my first time on your site i feel bad about picking on you when really only 2 people know the truth sony and M$ but you dont have facts.. these are half lies that will turn out to be not true.

  • Glen

Can you let me know what this site is about?

It seems like a PS3 site but you talk just as much about the XBOX

why dont you stop all your xbox put downs and make this site a friendly site for PS2 gamers and XBOX gamers to come and read?

  • Henning

    Uh, sure.

My tag line says that this site is about the PS3 and its competitors. I’m not putting down the 360, and you would have to be overly sensitive to think I am. I’m just pointing out where advantages and disadantages may be gained/lost by Sony or Microsoft. I think the Xbox 360 is a great system, and if you’ve read this website at all, you’ll know that’s how I feel. Just for one example, I’ve noted how improved the Xbox 360 controller is, and wished that Sony would improve theirs.

As far as reporting on Xbox 360 content on a PS3 site goes, that’s my perogative as the owner of this site. This site is about the PS3. One of the largest contributing factors to the success of the PS3 will be the Xbox 360. You’d have to be blind not to see that. That’s one reason for me to cover 360 news. Another is that I think it’ll be a great system, and I’ll be playing games on it. I like to post about things I’m interested in.

That said, while this site does report on Xbox 360 and Revolution, it is a PS3 site, so news will be reported from that perspective. Even then, I’ve tried to keep bias from creeping into my posts, and I’ve had other people remark upon the un-biased nature of this site.

  • Henning, well said. I run a 360 blog (www.360hacker.net), and I dont see anything wrong with this post. He’s just stating the facts as we know them people, whether or not it sucks.
