A number of times I've bought a game solely to play it with my brother. For example, I once bought Rayman because it said two player on the back, and it turned out that you could only play three mini-games after you had unlocked them in the main game. You should be able to play two or more players from the outset without forcing you to play the main game to play them. In fact, I was going to buy the new Splinter Cell to play co-op with my brother from the offset, now I'm not so sure. Yeah, I find this equally frustrating.
