Explitive, your an idiot.

Henning is right. Just like a record player or a cd player. If you have a record player, and use an optical cable.... it's still analogue due to the player.... likewise if you use a cd player and use an rca cable... it is then analogue due to the cable.
And with a digital to audio ADAPTOR style cable, it will only transfer at the LOWEST level of clarity.
As fast as the slowest man, Ya know? It dosent matter that it can FIT your hdmi input on your tv. Analogue tv's also have component input's..... so they are capeble of hd?..... NOPE!! It is a COMPONENT cable that will FIT your hdmi input. There is absolutely no resolution benifit to this. You need a dedicated DIGITAL out directly from the 360, provided it could even provide that, with an hdmi out right there at the digital source.
I love it when people are passionate about thigs they just don't quite get....... they always seem to yell the loudest.

Yes, the Xbox 360 is inherently digital and therefore he best connection would be HDMI.

But my point is still valid. Microsoft would have to include extra circuitry to support HDMI output, raising the price of the Xbox 360. As well, the majority of gamers will probably only hook up their sets to SD (standard definition) displays. So the extra expense would be wasted for many buyers. Microsoft doesn't think the expense is worth it. Apparantly Sony does. :)

"They don’t really have any incentive to do so before then. Component video outputs work fine for HD. Even 720p or 1080i"

no incentive?? are you kidding me? how about having the best gaming picture ever? hows that for incentive? component works fine yes, but why spend 400 on a game system to get fine. I want outstanding. besides 720p looks better than 1080i and 1080p is the best (which apparently 360 doesnt display).

from an engineering standpoint, why wouldnt it support HDMI? that is the best way to transmit pure digital video from source to display a next generation system should support the next generation connections. that is what video games are a pure digital source. kind of like using an upconversion dvd player for a live action dvd versus using say "the incredibles" the difference in picture in the live action is minimal even over HDMI but WOW on "the incredibles" amazing difference.

MS would be stupid to not support HDMI, it isnt that much more $$ for the cable and it would be a great improvement for HD gaming.

also, what percentage of 360s are getting plugged into HDTVs anyway? I would bet less than 25%. and how many of those TVs are plasmas the best option besides a tube for gaming? even less. most of them will probably be plugged into either a projection HDTV like LCD (nasty for gaming) or DLP (better but still projection) or a low quality LCD flat panel where the picture cannot even be appreciated.
