Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi Q&A

Gran Turismo creator Mr. Yamauchi was recently part of a Q&A session.

When quizzed about the PS3, he waxed poetic about “photo-realistic computer graphics”. Does anybody understand what that really means? It means that it looks a photo. That is, it looks indistinguishable from the real thing. Now, he can’t really think that the PS3 is capable of photo-realistic graphics, so why does he bother saying that? He probably just means really really good graphics. So why not say so? Ah well.

The more interesting part is that he also says that the PS3 “is the first game hardware that can perform calculations for physics simulation to the level of our satisfaction”. Now, I believe that. The Cell has 7 SPE’s that are perfect for physics calculations. I look forward to seeing what Mr. Yamauchi does with them.
