Microsoft is dropping price down to £250.00?? thats not good enough. By the time you add the HD-DVD drive on its gonna be more than £600 & still not good enough.

The PS3 is £425.00, thats an extra £175.00 & gets you:
* Bluray Drive (opposed to standard DVD drive on 360)
* HDMI digital output (opposed to 360 analog component).
* 60gb HDD (opposed to 20gb on 360).

Those 3 points are enough to make prople know the PS3 is a better purchase.

Other reasons:

* Games can be bigger & hav more details & videos as per 50Gb Bluray discs
* PS3 will integrate Ageia's physics engine. The PhysX SDK is a library for creating in-game realistic graphics through simulation of thousands of interacting fragments. According to Ageia, its multi-threaded capability makes it a perfect fit for the Cell processor.

It'll hav HDMI 1.3 which is 10Gbs (1.2 was only 5Gbs) gives:

* Deep Color: HDMI 1.3 supports 30-bit, 36-bit and 48-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths, up from the 24-bit depths in previous versions of the HDMI specification, for stunning rendering of over one billion colors in unprecedented detail.

* New HD lossless audio formats: In addition to HDMI’s current ability to support high-bandwidth uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby® Digital and DTS®), HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.

At least Sony is trying to make new standards. You saw the difference between PGR1 & 2 on the original XBOX (30fps) to PGR3 on the 360 running at 60fps. Or better example would be the difference on the Tekken series when on the PS2 running at @ 50 & 60 Hz. They'll be much more smoother & more real. Now you can imagine the difference between 60fps & 120fps. Xbox 360 will definitely suck. PS3 will have better framerate, better resolution oh & better games.

This will also push those LCD & plasma makers make more screens with better refresh rates. All these times the screen makers didnt need to make high refresh screens as it wasnt really required. The nexgen Consoles especially the PLAYSTATION 3 will make sure all these change very quickly.

Plus its a true HDTV as it supports 1080p rather than 1080i & will have Blu Ray where the 360 only has a standard dual layer DVD drive. funny how Microsoft is the biggest back up of HDTV & they didnt put them on the XBOX 360. Now they're saying they'll add it on as an upgrade. (a) how many people would upgrade the drives on they're 360 they've got a fully working DVD drive. (b) when are upgrades ever successful in consoles? Megadrive 32X, Mega CD?? people dont like paying more than they have to.

45" Sharp 1080p lcd screen is currently selling in uk for £4.5k
37" Phillips 1080p lcd is selling for £2.4k

as more sizes & different makes & models come out by the end of the year they should be much more cheaper. I would personally pay £1.5k for a 37" lcd 1080p lcd tv which is what the price should be by the time PS3 comes out in the UK. And I'm really looking forward to them both.

At the moment i hav a 36" Toshoba CRT widescreen running 480p for my xbox & PS2 games & also got a Panasonic PT-AE700 projector which does 1080i & 720p which i sometimes use for gaming but mostly for watching movies.

The way the way technologies advancing & getting cheap 1080p just round the corner at a decent price & everyone will be looking forward to 2160p :)
