Wireless Networking with PS3 | PS3Blog.net

A reader asked a while ago about wireless and PS3:

Will you be able to connect to the internet on the PS3 wirelessly using a Router?

While I answered him by e-mail, I forgot to post my response here. (Sorry!)

The answer is that you should be able to, because the PS3 hardware specs list IEEE 802.11 b/g support. So if you have a wireless router and want your PS3 to connect to it, this should work just fine.

The question is, will the PS3 allow wireless connections to it? The specs list the PSP as a possible controller through Wi-Fi, so maybe. This is where I get out of my depth.

Anyone?

  • For connecting PSPs to the PS3, the PS3 does not need to act as an access point (aka router): WLAN also supports the ad-hoc mode which does not require any access point at all.

  • Thanks Tim. For more on WLAN, visit the Wikipedia WLAN page.
