Horrible name. I was going to buy one and now I may not. I refuse to go into EB Games and ask for Burnout on Wii. It just sounds stupid. I would like to meet the Jackass who came up with this name and tell him to his face that I will not buy the Nintendo system because he is a retard. You just cost your company $1000 + dollars! Moron.

Call me crazy but I apply this to all of my purchases. When a company has just flat out idiotic advertising I stop shopping at their store or buying their product. Target deceided to not guarantee the jobs of serviceman who had to fight in Iraq. Yep never shop their again.

They screwed up because Revolution was edgy and invoked curiousity in me (haven't played a Nintendo system since N64) Outisders (non-gamers) might be curious as to why a system was called Revolution. They screwed up. It sounds like a name to conquer Japan and nowhere else.

Hey Nintendo, do some research on a name in the English speaking countries that buy more systems and games than your home country.

Sorry I had a bad day.

I'm sorry but it just doesn't sound like a games console which is what it is meant to be.

Picture the scene, little Timmy is asked by his dad what he wants for Xmas & this is how the conversation goes:

Dad:"So Timmy what do you want Santa to bring you this year?"

Lil' Timmy:"I want a Wii!"

Dad:"What? Well you know where the bathroom is."

Lil' Timmy:"No dad I want a Wii!"

Dad:"Look son if you want a wee then just go to the toilet OK?"

Lil' Timmy:"You don't understand I really want a Wii!!!"

Dad:"Right for the last time go to the toilet or I'll bring out my old leather belt with spikes & that will sort you out OK?"

Lil' Timmy:"No Dad I want the Nintendo Wii it's a games console. Wii. W. I. I.!"

Dad:"Oh. Well that's a stupid name for a games console. Some bright spark at Nintendo almost got you 6 swipes of my spiky leather belt because they had to go & give a games console a stupid name."

This situation could be happening right now somewhere.

It's trying to appeal to non gamers & calling it the Wii will not do that. Nintendo is already severely hampered by the stereotype of being "for kids" which is partly justified & trying to be too clever in calling their new console the Wii will not & is not helping that situation.

Personnaly I don't care about the name of a console. I don't mind Wii. People don't like it because it is new, they never have seen it before. It like when a car is redesigned, people don't like it first, get used to it and love it.

The concept of "We" is so true with Nintendo product. The only way I can have my girlfriend to play with enthousiasm a video games is if it is a Nintendo game. Other games are too violent or more for indivual play or network play.

Maybe I went a bit too far with the inbreeding analogy but Wii is just a ridiculous name asking to be mocked which is exactly what's happening, which is the point I'm trying to make.

"Wii" sounds like wee in England aswell....

The name is ridiculous. Nintendo has seriously messed up with the choice of Wii.

Hopefully they have seen mostly negative reactions from people & decide on a name change.

Imagine if two parents got together to name a child like this:

Dad:"Hmm how about calling our son Inbreeder?"

Mom:"Yeah that's a great name. Inbreeder. I like it!"

Dad:"We're brother & sister & he is a result of inbreeding so it makes sense."

Mom:"Yeah & it fit's nicely with our surname, McHick."

Dad:"So Inbreeder McHick it is then."

Mom:"There's no way the kids at school will pick on him with a great name like that."

Dad:"Yep. We're so incredibly clever coming up with a name like that instead of our original choice of Mike."

Ludicrous Nintendo. Ludicrous.

Word. Gaming needs to stop taking baby steps in the path of Evolution; we NEED a "revolution" in terms of interactivity and gameplay freedom if the industry is to preogress. I'm no fan of Nintendo's kid-centric policies, nor did I ever think that a system with barely more power than the orignal Xbox could make a revolution no matter how advanced the controller, but everyone already knows the Revolution by its name, not Wii. All this marketing BS would be easier to accept if the company promoting it hadn't said just two years ago "consumers aren't interested in online games".
