The big problem with Sony's controller is lack of "rumble" capability. That is going to be a huge detriment to gameplay. To put it in perspective, practically EVERY game uses the rumble feature whereas only select genres of games will benefit from Sony's knockoff MS Sidewinder technology.

I'm not sure it's possible to infringe on your own patent.

Patent examiners need to b kicked in the head. This sounds remarkably similar to a N64 product that was released in 1995 and another from MS released in 1998 as stated above. iDon't think that there is anything novel about this idea especially since the knowledge of how to practice the invention and sufficient technical descriptions has already been published, thus creating prior art. It shouldn't b possible to patent something if prior art exists. No wonder there has been so many lawsuits over patents these days. Its as if patent examiners r'nt conducting prior art and novelty searches anymore.

Don't b surprised if an another inventor tries to invalidate Sony's patent sometime in the future.

It doesn't really matter. Microsoft's SideWinder Freestyle Pro also sensed motion and came out back in 1998! And thay stole it from cars airbag technology! Read this.
