Burnout 5 Announced

EA has announced the next game in the popular Burnout series, Burnout 5 (who woulda thunk it), is currently in development for the PS3 & Xbox 360.

What’s new about Burnout 5? Freedom apparantley. You can wreak absolute chaos in Paradise City (strange kind of Paradise) on any part of the city that takes your fancy. It’s an open world to do as much damage to your vehicle & any other vehicle that is unwittingly foolish enough to get in your way.

When you enter Paradise City you are given a Drivers License which tracks & keeps a record of all your misdemeanors & when your reputation reaches a certain mark you will face off against the most notorious “burners” & their goal isn’t to cross the finish line first…

Criterion Games director of games design, Alex Ward had this to say about Burnout 5:

“Burnout 5 is a complete reinvention of the series, built from the ground up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. To create truly next-generation gameplay, we needed to create a truly next-generation game, from top to bottom.”

The game will apparantley arrive sometime 2007.

Is freedom the way to go for the Burnout series? You can have your say here.

Hey Gary, just a heads up, Games Press dont like the general public knowing about their site as they dont allow non-press members to register for their site. Jsut thought i’d tell ya so you can remove the link.

    1. It sounds like a great idea, but how big can the drivable area be without having to load? They could cache things to the HDD, which would help make it faster. But what about Xbox 360 Core owners?

    2. I hope the game has some good multiplayer modes. Playing Burnout with friends is a lot of fun.

    3. It would be nice to see some licensed cars.

I’m excited to see what they do with it. I loved Burnout Revenge. The freedom thing ….. could be a good thing. Multiplayer crashes :) Those are always fun!

Hmmm. I wonder if they’ll have races with a checkpoint system. Start at position A, go to position B then C, then back to A. What route you travel is up to you.

I reckon they will have missions set up on certain areas of the map that you can go to when you feel like it but you will have as much freedom to cause as much damage & chaos as you want.

For some reason I really like getting on and off freeways in racing games. I hope they have lots of those.

I tried out the Burnout game on my psp, but didn’t get to play it for too long unfortunately. As I need a racing game when the ps3 comes out, I can’t wait for this one.
