Yellow Dog Linux on PS3 | PS3Blog.net

The official Terra Soft site lists the Sony PS3 right at the top of their supported hardware page. Not many details, but this is good to hear. I assume that this is for professional developers and hopefully will support hobbyist developers as well.

[Henning Edit: Here’s a link saying that they’ll ship Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 for the PS3 mid-November.]

It seems logical now when I think about it, in a previous news it was announced that Sony & Terra Soft were building a PlayStation 3 cluster together.

Though I would have loved to see Ubuntu on the PS3 this choice seems reasonable from aspects, choosing KDE instead of GNOME was also a wise choice IMO because KDE contains much more settings and less CLI (COMMAND LINE INTERFACE) from my experience at least (don’t assume that I don’t like CLI, I LOVE IT ;).

  • That’s very interesting, I wonder what it will look like or maybe the the PS3 cross media bar just has linux under it ..

How the heck did they get access to a PS3? How?

Garrett, of course. The Linux installs onto a totally separate HDD partition so you boot into either Linux OR the PS3 OS.
