You do know that optical or digital coax don't have the bandwidth to allow DTS HD Master or DDHD right? Those are uncompressed audio formats that only HDMI or 5.1/7.1 preouts can handle.

Take a look at when the article was posted - before the PS3 was released. Don't be surprised that the information is somewhat inaccurate. And anyway, I said it "should" work, not that it does! And at the end I say "Sony hasn’t provided any information about this". So clearly, this article is conjecture.

Also, don't confuse HDMI 1.3 support with DTS-HD support. They don't necessarily come hand in hand.

I have recently purchase a new receiver that supports HDMI 1.3 and it also decodes DTS-HD. Guess what, the PS3 is not able to pass bitstream at all which completly conflicts with this article. The PS3 doesnt even support HDMI 1.3.

So much for all the Sony / Blu-ray promises....

Whether or not a Sony rep has spoke about it the author shouldnt post informat that the console is incapable of doing.

- "Yeah! My receiver supports 192/24 PCM. So I should be good to go!" -

Check to make sure that it's not stereo and it supports 5.1/7.1.

It really won't matter in my opinion. The thing with Audio equipment is the weakest link is where the problem will be. CD audio sound is as good as the human ear can hear when put through an Optical cable. That for most people is easy. The problem usually lies in the speakers or the receiver (not enough true power). As great as true audio DTS and HD DD will be, their are very few people who will actually see a difference. My speaker set-up costs me around $6000 a few years ago. I am already looking to upgrade my speakers (the quality is much better than even 5 years ago).

Don't worry about the new fangled sound the PS3 can output. Their really is no equipment on the market that can take advantage of it and when it does appear, we won't be able to afford it for a few years. Towards the end of the PS3s life we might be able to take advantage of everything packed into it. Don't get upset if you can't. I would personally purchase an HDTV (37" or larger) way before I would by anything else. Let the A/V junkies get the prices down for us.

Thanks, Henning. There are a number of questions that Sony hasn't answered to yet, so I hope they spill the beans soon.....more so than they did at the Sony event a couple of weeks ago lol.
