Ridge Racer 7 Update

IGN has an update about Ridge Racer 7, what looks to be the premiere Japanese launch title for the PS3. Technically, the game is a masterpiece. It runs at 60 frames per second at 1920 x 1080. It has 5.1 surround sound for both sound effects and music. It will also feature 14 player online multiplayer support.

Ridge Racer 7 will have extensive HDD support. You can save your game, of course. (Hmmm. Actually, even though everyone has assumed this, I rarely find it actually stated.) You can also save downloaded content. But get this: the game does an install to the tune of 5GB worth of data! I certainly hope that this 5GB installation is an optional feature.

You’ll also be able to download additional music for a fee. Hmmm. Unfortunately, this makes me think that I won’t be able to use my own music, if they’re trying to sell me music tracks. The good news is that you’ll also be able download race events for free. Though I have no idea what a race event is. Personally, I’d prefer downloading new race tracks.

I hope that 5GB install is optional. Honestly I’d rather wait a few seconds.

Yeah, this game sounds good, but I’d leave out the 5GB install unless it was absolutely mindblowing in a “never ever going to play any other ps3 game ever” way!

Will PS3 allow you play your own music tracks in-game from a Memory Stick, USB device, or hard drive for any game? Is there any reason you shouldn’t be able to do this given the known PS3 specs? Maybe Sony chose to not allow you to do this in order to make downloadable music a commodity at the Playstation store ( as is the case with Ridge Racer 7 ). Afterall, Sony will be taking a cut of eveything sold in their online marketplace.

  4. Henning Says:

There’s nothing to stop developers from doing this, but they have to decide to do it. Which I haven’t seen yet.
