BC is not a make-or-break feature, and I don’t think most of us are claiming it is. On the other hand, it is a very nice feature that many people will appreciate. Trying to figure out if people would still buy a PS3 without BC is pointless. It’s there, and some people don’t care, and some people do.

ALL’s im saying is that it be very interesting to see if rather would purchase a ps3 if it wasnt backwards compatible. to completely write-off a next-gen system because of poor BC (its not like the 360 has none) is ridiculous. like matt said, if you’re so nostalgic, wouldnt it be more fun to play it on the original system? i dont want to say BC is useless, but i dont think it should be a huge issue on a next gen system.

I plan to give my PS2 to my nephew, if I can play all my PS2 games on my PS3. I fully plan to continue playing games like Champions of Norrath, Frequency, and Guitar Hero on the PS3.

luke: backwards compatibility may not be a big issue for some people (for you, for instance), but it’s a big, big deal for me. i actually still buy and play ps1 titles on my ps2. i don’t have a lot of space in my room, i am glad i won’t have to have three systems connected to my TV just to play all my games! and yes, when i got my ps2, i gave away my ps1. same thing will happen when i get my ps3: i will give my ps2 away.

“Maybe I should go Microsoft this round and get an Xbox 360. Then I could pick up old Halo and Star Wars titles that didn’t make it to PS2 and enjoy them. ….. WTF, Microsoft isn’t going to support old games on this system? So they are basically saying to me, FU Rather, you want to play our old library, go buy an Xbox. We are in such a big big hurry to beat Sony that we can’t be bothered with it. Hmm. I wonder what else might go wrong if they are rushing things so much?”

Putting ps2 hardware saves sony TONS of man-hours. Now they dont have to worry about making sure every game works, they KNOW every game will work. Backwards compatability is VERY important to me, because the graphical jump isnt as huge as it was from last gen transition (psone to ps2). With God of War, Bully and Final Fantasy XII not yet played by me, i will definitely be playing them on my ps3.

Well with the PS3 backward compatibility, I will be able to play PS2 games on my computer monitor using HDMI to DVI cable. I monitor has component input, but the picture is horrible and dark. And with my HDTV, when I play through analog video (including component video) connexion there is a lag in the gameplay which make a lot of games unplayable. With the HDMI I won’t get this lag, So the ps3 BC brings a lot of value to me.
