PLAYSTATION 3 User’s Guide Now Up! | PS3Blog.net

I previously mentioned the PS3 User’s Guide, stating that while the structure is up, the contents just weren’t there.

xberserker pointed out to me a minute ago that the PLAYSTATION 3 User’s Guide is now up, so now my employer can expect a lot less productivity from me!

  • Pretty cool site, wish there was more screen shots. But still fun to look through 🙂

  • What I want to know is, can I upload my own avatar, or do I have to use a pre-defined one?

Secondly, I hope nobody uses the Online ID I want to use!

  • I hope you can use any image for the avatar, that would suck if you have to pick from a list.

They first thing I’m doing when I get my PS3 is registering my Online ID 🙂

I’m a little worried right now because the manual seems to say that the hdmi connection can only be used with displays that support hdcp:

“If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system.”

If true, this means no DVI connection to my Dell 2007fpw monitor. I guess I can still connect it via VGA if someone releases a cable or I find a suitable component-to-vga adaptor.

Has anyone heard any more about this?

Also, can anyone confirm that the ‘Custom Resolution’ option is present in retail units?

  • Yes, HDCP and HDMI go hand in hand. My HDTV is DVI/HDCP, so I should be okay.

The quote above does say that no video or audio will be output. But I’m guessing that this might be for BD and DVD playback only. Those are copy-protected media. I don’t see any reason for games not to work, but that’s up to Sony.

Yeah, before I had always heard that games wouldn’t be a problem so here’s hoping. There is also the matter of Linux. If I can’t run Linux with my monitor through dvi then I’m going to be really disappointed!
