Ziff Davis Discontinues Official PlayStation Magazine

This is understandable. The main draw to the magazine was the demo disc filled with PS2 game demos and videos. With the PlayStation Network, we will download game demos, videos, and various other game content and previews electronically without the need for physical discs. This will be a much better medium and I look forward to trying it out.

I hope all of the staff find better positions and that some of the writers continue producing editorial content in some other format.

Anyone surprised or disappointed by this move?

It seems a bit premature to me. I’ve always realised that a lot of people who buy a PS3 will never go online, so a think Ziff Davis could end up missing out on a large market.

It is clear though that there will be a lot of “OPM-esque” content on PS3 online service eventually though.

I never bought these magazines because they were too expensive. So I missed out on a lot of demos. But now that demos are downloadable, I’ll be a demo-freak!
