Gran Turismo Demo Details | PS3Blog.net

If you live in Japan or own a Japanese PS3 you will have the opportunity to download a free demo of Gran Turismo HD Concept for the PS3 on Christmas Eve. IGN has taken a look at what the demo contains via Famitsu magazine. Here is what will be present in the demo:

* 1 new track named Eiger Nordwand, which you can race around in normal and reverse
* The new next-gen engine will be present in the demo
* Replays of the topped rank drivers in action will be available to download
* Rankings will be sorted by car class
* 10 cars to eventually choose from. You start off in the Suzuki Cappuccino ’95 and by completing the time trial mode in a certain time you will unlock other modes and more vehicles. Below are all 10 cars featured in the demo:

* Suzuki Cappuccino ’95
* Mazda Eunos Roadster ’89
* Honda Integra Type R’04
* Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV GSR’96
* Infinity G35 Coupe
* Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR’05
* Lotus Elise 111R’04
* Nissan Sky Liner GT-R V Spec II ’94
* Toyota Celica GT-FOUR Rally Car ’95
* Ferrari 599’06

Famitsu also interviewed Polyphony Digital’s head honcho, Kazunori Yamauchi. Interestingly, Yamauchi-san says the reason why they canned the idea of releasing GT HD and instead concentrate on Gran Turismo 5, was because of the reaction of overseas gamers after TGS ’06. Most people weren’t happy (I certainly wasn’t) with the original idea of releasing a game with very little content, forcing you to buy content that most people expect to find already on the disc they have just bought, so they decided to go full steam ahead with GT 5. Common sense prevails!

He does expect to have both GT HD Premium and Classic in GT 5 though they haven’t decided on the controversial downloadable content issues.

Man, I both love and loathe the GT series of games. I loved GT 1&2 on the PSone, skipped GT3 and eventually bought GT4 on PS2 last Christmas. Although I did find it enjoyable in parts, it was also incredibly annoying, resulting in my gaming rage being released. When that happens I stop playing a game and get rid of it. So I have mixed feelings about GT 5. I’ll probably get it eventually…

    Hey, Quick heads-up!!
    You can create a Japanese account to be able to download GT HD demo this christmas on any PS3.

    Ive already done so, and downloaded the latest GT HD trailer in 1080p glory.
    That game is lookin amazing!! Definetively a PS3 seller game.

    GT5 has been a dark horse, I mean everyone talks about MGS being the PS3 hope for success, but people forget that GT4 was the PS2 most selled game WORLDWIDE.

  • Can you do that if you’ve already created a North American account though?

  • Nick

    Yeah I have both accounts on my PS3.

    Step by step guide (from ps3forums)

    Ok these are the steps I took to make a Japanese account, OP, if you want to add this to your post up top go ahead.

    1. First create a new user for your PS3.
    2. Sign Up for the Playstation Network.

    3) Scroll through agreement, right button is accept.
    4) Sign-In ID: E-mail address, password, confirm password, checkbox for remember password, security question, answer to security question
    5) Create online ID, select right button to accept
    6) First Name, Last Name, two unknown (enter anything), left radio button is male, right is female, select right button to accept.
    7) Select second option (this chooses not to enter billing info I think)
    8 ) First box numbers (I entered 6 or 7 kinda like a zip code), second box select anything, tokyo, 23 tokyo, nothing, tokyo, select right box (you can type in other stuff, I just took a chance and typed this stuff and it worked)
    9) Leave box blank, select right button to accept
    10) Select right button to accept (confirm ID stuff)
    11) Select only button available
    12) Now select your avatar
    13) Sits on this next screen for a bit, you can either select the second option “NO” or cancel out using the circle button.

    Once you cancel out you’ll be taken back to the XMB, select sign in, after signed in go to the Playstation Store

  • I don’t have a PS3 as I live in the Dark Ages (Europe) so I may give that a shot come March.

    Thanks for the tip, Nick!

  • GT4 was my favorite Gran Turismo simply because it gave us people who suck at racing sims a mode we can actually be good at, B-SPEC MODE!!!!! Finally, I can legitimately win races!!!

  • After viewing the Japanese trailer for GT HD all I can say is WOW!

  • NOT A SINGLE GERMAN CAR!

    What is that? Germanys cars are some of the most desireable cars in the whole world, yet Polyphony ignores them!!!

    BOYKOTT!!!

    Just kidding… Although I find it rather sad, considering we have the fastest stock cars in the world (stock here means, at least 10000 cars produced with no modification being done).

  • Sporty

    Thanks Nick. I attempted that but got caught in the firmware 1.32 update. Now everything is good though. Got the JP store up and running, sweet

    I’m downloading GT HD now

  • Pc

    I can’t wait to play this game because it looked beautiful online in videos, plus it reminds me of old times.

  • YODADDY

    WILL THEY RELEASE IT TO STATES ANY TIME SOON ? OR DO WE WAIT FOR THE GAME TO BE RELEASED ?.. THANKS NICK

  • Pc

    If any of yall read this and have already downloaded GT HD, please let me know how it is..thanx.

  • Chris PS3 lover

    U DONT NEED TO LIVE IN JAPAN TO GET THE JAPANESE ONLINE CONTENT
    YOU JUST NEED TO MAKE ANOTHER ACCOUNT WITH JAPAN AS THE ORIGIN
    IF YOU ARNET FLUENT IN JAPANESE JUST REMEMBER HOW TO SIGN UP IN ENGLISH

  • Sporty

    GT HD is only a trailer atm. But thanks again Nick. I set up my 2nd account and downloaded Ridge racer 7 demo from the JP store. That demo is completly in english. Kinda makes you wonder why they are dragging there feet on releasing it here.

  • Sony is apparently having issues with the influx of network traffic over the GTHD download. I imagine it will be absolute HELL at Sony when thousands of christmas PS3’s are opened and soon after simulateously try to download the demos. From what ive heard, its either already released in the states, or it goes live on December 24th.
