In response to the following...

Henning "Universal mic support."

I got my PS3 on the 5th of Jan 2007, shipped from BestBuy.com here in the U.S. Now that I have it, I've plugged in nearly every USB device that I have. I'm glad to report that the two USB audio devices that I have for Mac/PC, an M-Audio FastTrack USB, and a Griffin iMic, both came up fine. This has allowed me to forgo the purchase of a bluetooth headset and use it for in game chat both mic and output work fine. not sure if that's "Universal" but is sure was a pleasant surprise. Also on the list are serveral Microsoft USB Joysticks that I had lying around and a few USB hard drives. The open-ness of it is amazing compared to the 360. Now if we only had force feedback......

Regarding playing PS2 games on the PS3, the only one I've seen so far is Champions of Norrath: Return to Arms, and it seemed to play fine as far as I could tell. If they're jamming the internal PS2's graphics output through the PS3's hardware, it seems to be done well enough that you can't tell in a game like Champions.

I'll second the vote for a new Champions game for the PS3. Mmmm, hi-def Champions... and please no crappy obvious bugs this time! In fact, if they were to fix the wobbly screen, players' controllers interfering with other players (I think that was actually fixed in RtA), and nonfunctioning magical items, then increase the resolution of the whole game, and sell it as Return to Arms 1.1 PS3, I'd buy it. (If I had a PS3.) Or talk Henning into buying it at least.

Well as my main interest is the PS3 and not what Nintendo or Microsoft do, I take more notice of what Sony does both positively and negatively and I really can't think of many PS3 related positives during 2006.

Sony have deserved my negativity and I'm not going to just play it down because I like their products or that I should give them some slack.

As I've said above, I will still try to get a PS3 this March regardless of their gaffes during 2006, but I still have the right to criticise them when I feel they have failed to deliver.

Anyone agree or disagree?

I still think most of you guys are being too negative on Sony. Sony didn't deliver? They definitely fell short of their promises and didn't deliver what we were dreaming of and there were several problems (no background downloads. poor cross platform game performance). But 360 and Wii were in similar boats. I don't want to bash, but their 2006 game lineups were also pretty light. None of the big three delivered anything even close to what they promised.

2006, overall, all three new platforms were still just getting warmed up. 360 is a little further along than the others, but even there, Gears was a hit, but almost every other major title promised for 2006 was pushed to 2007: Halo, Mass Effect, Crackdown, Alan Wake, Forza. Those titles give the 360 a strong '07 lineup, but '06 was a little light on all the next gen platforms.

And Henning, regarding TrueHD and DTS-HD, what about lossless/uncompressed PCM? A lot of BD discs use that and the quality is supposedly the best.

I didn't have any dissapointments from this years E3 event or from anything that sony did. The only thing that dissapointed me was reading all the crap from nintendo and xbox fanqueers on the internet all the time. I can't help but read all the sites to see what people are saying. Other than that, the only thing that still dissapoints me is the lack of my own PS3 !!! :( I could get one at Best Buy tomorrow, but i don't have the money for it now :(
