Well Nyko seems to have found the solution. To be fair to Nyko, they had announced this a few days ago, but with a lack of details, I was not that convinced that they had got it right. Other solutions have existed that allow the PS3 to connect to various PS2/PSOne controllers, but none were set-up to support Guitar Hero controllers.
Like me, Kotaku’s Michael McWhorter shared these concerns. Unlike me though, he was at CES and got the chance to speak to Nyko’s people to double check they meant what they had said in a press release. Apparently, a toggle switch on the side of the adaptor should be the cure of any Guitar Hero woes that PS3 users have. This means that, barring (arguably rare) software incompatibility, your old PS2 can go straight into storage… or be swapped to get a discount for a PS3!
The adaptor (priced at $15) should be available in the near future.
