MotorStorm Q&A | PS3Blog.net

GameZone recently got the chance to have a little Q&A session with some members of Evolution Studios and there’s a couple of interesting bits of info that were revealed.

MotorStorm supports online voice chat via Bluetooth or USB headsets. Great for those people who like trash talking during games. I bet Henning has some tasty insults ready to be unleashed on unsuspecting opponents. 😮

North American MotorStorm owners will not be able to play against other players from different regions, which is a bit of a disappointment. Maybe they will make it possible at a later date? Although there is a night time mode, the vehicles won’t have active headlights which is a shame. As for the audio, check this out:

We have 7.1 audio via HDMI as well as Dolby Digital support. We also have a technology we refer to as “Live-Fi” that presents all of the music tracks in the front end of the game as live versions. These have been cleared with the original artist and you can’t get them in this format from anywhere else.

So you can listen to the likes of Nirvana, Slipknot, Queens of the Stone Age, Wolfmother, Primal Scream and the Reverand Horton Heat, in full 7.1 if you have it. The sooner we can listen to our own tracks in-game the better. 😐

Wondering about the online side of things? Not a lot is revealed apart form this:

MotorStorm online uses a lobby-based system where the players look through all the games currently online and choose the one that best suits them. We do have a ranking system, but unlike previous ranking systems you may have seen, we base ours on the player’s current form rather than their total experience. This means that it isn’t just a case of putting in the hours to top the rankings, you’ll need to race well consistently.

Finally, MotorStorm is definitely running in 720p and not 1080p so make of that what you will.

MotorStorm Q&A

  • Wouldnt it be cool, if the ingame music get played thru virtual speakers in your car?

My (sorely missed, had a “meeting” with a deer some time ago, fortunately nothing happened to me) old car had 4 positions for speakers and turning ones head makes it sound differently (dunno how to explain it differently 😀 ). I hope, “Live-Fi” is sort of something like this. The music in games like NFS always gets switched off by me, because mostly I dont like it (I am rather a Metal guy) and secondly it sound totally bland, as if a truck with speakers on it is following me… This is not like “real driving” 😀

Luckily my new receiver does have 6.1 (and I got new speakers from my mums friend, which majorly ROCK!!).

I love the demo for this game alot. I can’t wait for the final game to come out in march 🙂

I don’t think the music will be in 7.1 surround. Multi-channel audio is mainly for movie and games so you can hear spatially positioned sound effects. Most music is single channel and doesn’t even use stereo.

Now, some musicians such as Nine Inch Nails and Beck did true 5.1 multi-channel surround sound mixes on DVD-A or SACD that added trippy effects to the music. I’m a huge fan of that, but I don’t think that’s what they’re talking about here.

I think the game sound is 7.1, and the music is single channel or stereo. I also don’t quite understand what they are talking about with Live-Fi.
