Gary pointed out to me that Guitar Hero 3 will be available this fall for all major platforms – PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that we’ve heard promises like this before from Activision, and they weren’t kept. Last year they said that Guitar Hero 2 would be available for all major next-gen consoles. (Or something like that.) I consider both the PS3 and the Wii to be major next-gen consoles, but neither have Guitar Hero 2.

So while it’s good news that Guitar Hero 3 is supposedly coming to the PS3, I’m skeptical about its release. I’m also skeptical that there’ll be good songs. To be frank, I much prefer the song selection in Guitar Hero over that in Guitar Hero 2. Which is similar to my preferences in Frequency over its sequel Amplitude. I hope Red Octane and Activision can buck this trend and give us some decent songs in Guitar Hero 3. If not, there’s always Harmonix’ Rock Band, also coming out this fall.
