The idea isnt new, but condensing it into a philosophy, and putting a major push behind creating software that utilizes the idea is. Sure, there have been games here and there that have taken advantage of user created content in one way or another, but since when has a company so resolutely pushed forward into this arena? Its bringing the concept of web 2.0 into the world of gaming.

Without people actively wanting a site like wikipedia to be full of content and information, it would be an encyclopedia without pages. Without people wanting to show their videos to the world, Youtube would be a cinema with no films. Game 3.0 is basically making the idea apply to gaming. Without gamers wanting to have fun with the tools at their disposal, it becomes a service with nothing to serve. The experience is created by the gamers and where they choose to go with it. Home also fits into this, because although its basically a service, its up to the users where this goes and in what direction it grows. Its based on how the public chooses to go with it, and sony basically just follows the direction.

"This 3.0 is just pushing the freedom of PCs to consoles"

No... We will see options for user created content that never existed on PCs. I love PCs and I remember how popular and exciting map/mod making was for games like Doom, HL, and Marathon was in the 90's. But we will get much better user created content systems than we've ever had before.

Casual games is a completely different topic.

I love casual gaming. I like having some friends over for some party games and chat it up over some snacks and Coke. Multiplayer all the way, baby!

The whole idea of "casual gaming" irks me to no bounds. I dont' want to casually game. I want to game..give me huge RPG's with awesome graphics, indulging story lines, empathetic charactors. i want to lose myself in the games I play.

Sure I'll play some casual games...who doesn't...but its not why i game.

This 3.0 is just pushing the freedom of PCs to consoles (Sony only atm). I love screwing around with games. On a console, you are bound to nothing but the content thats on the disc (and now dlc), but you cannot do stuff yourself. Back in the HL days, a made several maps for fun (didnt have a console back then) and I shared them.

I just hope, it doesnt stop at "low profile" games like LBP. It would be really cool, if I could make maps for UT or Killzone (no matter if I need to make them on my PC or on the console, both support keyboard and mouse controls).

Thing is, with the 360 marketplace, that content you get on a PC for free (maps, additional cars...) you need to pay for. Okay, it is "professional" content, but the casual designer has no means of doing so on a console (like with Q3Radiant or so).

Sony never claimed Game 3.0 or user driven content was new or that they invented it.

It's been on the PC for ages. Hell, Team Fortress started out a free mod for Quake. The Game 3.0 keynote was saying we're entering into dynamic content that can be driven by users. Like LittleBigWorld for instance. That game wont be the same for two different people.

It was about a way of thinking. Will Wright has been on this for awhile. Keynote was just that developers need to think more like that then static product that was the way of old.

I'm looking forward to it but I never got into level editors and create and character. I hope it's more like LittleBigPlanet as in, even if you suck at creating something the community will puch the envelope and give the less creative people something to play.
