Yellow Dog Linux now has Wi-Fi

Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) has been updated to v5.0.1. It can now access the built in Wi-Fi in the 60 GB Version of the PLAYSTATION 3.

This is one of the main reasons I haven’t installed YDL on my primary hard drive, which is a 160 GB. I do have YDL on the 60 GB that came with the PS3 just to test it out. I like the freedom of Wi-Fi. And before this update I couldn’t use the Wi-Fi in the PS3, so I rarely used it. Now I’ll use it more.

Yellow Dog Linux v5.0.1 offers:

– Support for the Sony PS3.
– More than 500 updated packages.
– Built-in Wi-Fi now supported.
– USB printers fixed.
– The bootloader is now included on the DVD.

I can’t find a 5.0.1 ISO image on the download servers. Am I missing it or do I have to install 5.0 and then use an updater to update to 5.0.1? Or is there a complete 5.0.1 ISO coming?

This is great news as the main reason for wanting to use linux of PS3 was to use applications that required web access, as my PS3 is connected via wifi it was pretty useless to me.

Good to see that I wont have to reformat my drive too as I didn’t want to lose all my downloads again

My only question now is, does anyone know what firmware version this requires? It says to upgrade your firmware before installing, I’m currently at 1.54

I bought the “enhanced” support and I see the PS3 5.0.1 ISO image on the premium download servers.

On the free servers, I only see the 5.0 image. I assume you can use the 5.0 image and update from that. I also assume that the free mirrors will get the 5.0.1 image soon.
