Information is starting to leak out about the new SOCOM game for the PS3. First of all, it’s called “SOCOM: Confrontation”. Which to me sounds a little redundant. I would hope that anything to do with SOCOM would have some confrontation involved. Even “SOCOM: Big Red Dog” would have had more personality. Anyway. The next big thing to note is that this game will be multiplayer only. That’s right – no single player campaign at all. Much like Warhawk!
Supposedly the game will support up to 32 players per map, will be available on Blu-ray or by download, and will be available this fall. There is going to be extensive clan support, including giving a clan leader the ability to customize a clan’s look. Clan members will be able to vary their look somewhat within that theme.

What is up with PS3 games being multiplayer only OR single player only? There seems to be quite a few high profile PS3 games that are not including both multiplayer and single player. (Warhaw, Socom, Heavenly Sword, etc).
Any theory’s?

Only multiplayer / only single player is IMO to come to market earlier, rather than later. PS3 games drought needs to end ASAP, and sacrificing or pushing back single/multi is one way to speedup release.

I prefer this…
Many games got bad, when MP was added (Ratchet imho), but the SP/MP only games rock and you can notice the focus on either side!

Well if 1UP is to be believed, (they aren’t the biggest PS3 supporters) there is 3 SOCOM’s in development at the moment.
SOCOM: Confrontation for PS3 and SOCOM: Tactical Strike for PSP by Slant Six games with Zipper overseeing the projects.
And Zipper Working on a new PS3 SOCOM from the ground up, suppose to be Single Player with online as the traditional PS2 game’s were. Still a long ways off though.
We’ll see, Ziff Davis isn’t the same as they used to be several years ago though.
