The PS3 sales are definitely off to a slow start. My interpretation to these numbers is simple: kids.
There are definitely plenty of adult Nintendo fans who are charmed by Nintendo’s offerings. But realistically, those huge Pokemon figures are driven mainly by children. Also, the young demographic prefers portables which are selling extremely well, while adults generally prefer to play at their homes.
Why is the PS2 still outselling the PS3 and the 360? The PS3 and 360 appeal to the gaming enthusiasts which tend to be older while the PS2 holds a bigger appeal to a parent or grandparent shopping for children.
The ESA says that the average game player is 33, while the average game buyer is 40. However, I suspect that older gamers often play things like Internet card and puzzle games, while the younger players are driving the top 10 charts.

Sony has to get their butts in gear and do something about those PS3 numbers. They’re terrible.

Price Drop seems to be the only thing at this point.

Price drops yes, But I think they’ll go the bundle route first. Bundle in Motorstorm and Resistance wiith a purchase. Then a controller. Maybe a Blue Ray movie. Then a price drop. The longer Sony delays a price drop the larger the price drop eventually will be. When they finally announce their VOD service they’ll announce a larger HD PS3 (120 Gig) That’s when they will be able to sell a price decrease

They’ve got to drop the price and get the first party games out on a more consistent basis.

Once the Games come the price wont matter. Unless of course your a cheap Ass. This could be a great leason for others to LEARN how to save money, Its a good thing to start to learn at an early age kids. How will you buy a car or pay rent if you dont have this simple skill, as my Dad would say.

There’s a ‘must have game’ drought for the PS3 atm. My PS3′s collecting dust and will continue until Heavenly Sword comes out. Things will pick up this fall.

I think things will pick up later this year and next year for Sony. In August Heavenly Sword comes out and Lair comes out in July. At the end of 2007 Metal Gear Solid 4 will come out, which will help the PS3 greatly around Fall/Christmas, as Microsoft and Nintendo are coming out with must-have titles: Halo 3/Mass Effect and Super Smash Bros. respectively. Plus in 2008 Final Fantasy XIII comes out and Sony has predicted record breaking profits for the next year. Why don’t Sony or Microsoft just buy out Nintendo?

One question: why the heck is SpiderMan 3 a top selling game for April when it didn’t come out until May? I don’t believe that that many people pre-ordered it. My best guess is that these are shipments to stores and not consumer purchases. Anyone else?
True, the PS3 hasn’t had that many must-have hits, but realistically, neither have the Wii or the 360.
Also, if price is really the big issue, why didn’t the $500 PS3 sell? Maybe because consumers perceive that as inferior and only really consider the $600 version?

What Sony needs to do is drop the price of the PS3 by $50 or give a free (Sony) game with each PS3.
But what the main reason why the PS3 is the worst selling of the whole group in one very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very simple reason. There are still PS2 games.
Nintendo AND Microsoft attacked their loyal customers and stopped making ANY games on their systems, while Sony is still making a lot of games for the PS2, and a lot of third party developers are making a lot of games for the PS2.
When your customers don’t want to upgrade for another year, and the other companies’ customers have no choice, what do you think is going to happen?
Also, in the fall, when Home, Lair, the LittleBigPlanet demo, Warhawk, The Darkness, GRAW:2, R6:V, Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, Stranglehold, Heavenly Sword, Assassin’s Creed, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, and a lot more games are going to be out, the PS3 will shine like there’s no tomorrow.
And EGM says the Wii is already suffering the DS syndrome. (i.e. the only good games are made by Nintendo, almost all 3rd party games are pure crap)
