the visual bump that warhawk got really impressed me, i’d give that best surprise

I haven’t seen much of the coverage, but I saw the games that mattered most to me. I’m more impressed with Heavenly Sword and Uncharted than I ever thought possible. They look even more incredible than I expected. If both release this Fall, there is no way I will be able to avoid them.
Ratchet also looks great. It sets the bar for next-gen platformers IMO. Sony is showing what I wanted from the PS3 all along: a continuation of the games that made me love my PS1 and PS2. I just wish that there were more games in the meantime.

I’m thinking Best of Show is a mix between Lair and Heavenly Sword
I think the biggest surprise was how customizable LittleBigPlanet is! I mean, you can even use a cardboard box as a hat!!!!!!
Overall, it truly showed how much these games have been upgraded, specifically Warhawk. I probably wasn’t going to get Warhawk because they made it online only, but now it seems that I may get it, because it looks really fun even though it’s online only. Lair looks better than ever, and I just can’t believe that it’s coming out in two months. It looks so good, I am still thinking that it’s going to get pushed back til September!!!!!!!! Heavenly Sword and Ratchet and Clank weren’t on my lists to buy, but I may finally take a swing at Ratchet and kill some soldiers with HS.

I was impressed with Folklore, what little we seen of it.
I think this will be a sleeper hit. Here’s some videos

Wow, great to see some responses!
Just to throw in my favs:
Ratchet & Clank: I knew this would be great, but this was the first good gameplay footage that we got to see and it really delivers!
Drake’s Fortune: Until now, I really had no clue what to expect from this. Wow, this is really looking good!
Folklore: What an unexpected surprise! The previews look excellent, although I’m sketpical that this is coming from the Genji guys.
Warhawk Public Beta: I can’t believe this is coming next week! This sounds more like a free preview rather than a genuine testing effort.

I agree with you on the reservations due to Game Republic being the team. But, we can hold out hope that maybe Genji was their tooth cutting project and rushed at that

Best of Show: Ratchet & Clank
Best Surprise: Uncharted
Overall Reaction: Sony was forced to launch PS3 a year too early.

Best of Show: Unchartered Drakes Fortune looks fantastic even though some work needs to be done on the targeting, animations and camera etc. It could be a massive game and a start of a new franchise for Naughty Dog.
Best Surprise: Pain looks bloody mental! Came out of nowhere but could be a lot of fun, especially with the community aspect of uploading your best Pain moments so that people can download and comment on them.
Overall Reaction: The games were looking as great as I was hoping they would, reinforcing my view that the PS3 was the only choice for me.
John, I can’t see how Sony were forced to launch the PS3 a year too early. They have a damn good selection of titles available already but it’s just lacking some AAA games and this is not surprising so early in it’s life cycle.

Here’s more info on Folklore.
I hate linking to a QJ site, but they have a real trailer and info.

Seems the game is being headed by Yoshiki Okamoto, from Onimusha, Resident Evil, DMC. This game better be good. Just kinda sad no one else talks about it.

It reminds me a little of Okami in the graphical department. The camera looks fixed and which I hope is made fully 3D in the finished game but it looks pretty cool.

>John, I can’t see how Sony were forced to launch the PS3 a year too early.
Well I don’t think Sony & 3rd parties were really ready when PS3 was launched, there was a dozen noteworthy titles, with a handful “worth playing” and too many “quick ports” that did more damage than good IMO. And since then, there has been quite a lull in game releases… even “simple” games (ala flOw, CaC, SRaD…) were quite far apart.
It seems that period will be over by the end of the summer, with game releases will apparently coming on a more regular basis and a lot of stuff in the pipe for 2008.
