Finally we’re getting some decent information about Pelican’s new PS2 – PS3 controller adapter. The big thing about this thing was that it was supposed to make using Guitar Hero I and Guitar Hero II work on the PS3.
Well, it got it half right.
According to Gizmodo, GH1 works fine, but they heard lots of reports that GH2 didn’t work. (They couldn’t test GH2.) GH2 is the acid test for me, because I couldn’t use GH1 anyway because of the extreme lag introduce by the PS3 out the HDMI output. GH2, on the other hand, has a lag compensator, so theoretically I’d be able to play that on my PS3. But not with this adapter.

The radioshack PS2 to USB adapter works well with GH2. The only thing that doesn’t work is the whammybar.

It is strange that we don`t hear more complain about the lag issue. As far as I’m concern, PS2 games are unplayable, sure we have nice graphic, but the lag ruins everything.

The lag is only noticeable for me on games that require precise timing, like Frequency or Guitar Hero. I can play most other games just fine.

I have the thing and it works fine with all my old controls, all though I dont remember the rumble working.

I’ve got Frequency and on my (Euro) PS3 through HDMI to my 40″ Samsung HDTV I don’t notice any lag, I’ve not noticed any lag at all on any games, maybe a software emulation benefit?… or is it maybe the TV? I know my Samsung has a game mode feature, but AFAIK its used for older consoles through SCART (AV). I didn’t even know HDMI had that problem with PS2 games on PS3….
