Square says no Final Fantasy for the XBox 360

Hopefully this rumor won’t come up again. Here is what Hashimito said: “For the Wii, we have FF Crystal Chronicles in production. As for FF on the Xbox 360, it’s currently a completely blank page.”

So no Final Fantasy XIII or Final Fantasy Versus XIII for the XBox 360. At least now we know that the PS3 will get Square’s full attention. And fully use the PS3 and Blu-ray to the limits. I’m looking forward to the demos :)

No Final Fantasy for Xbox 360 … period

That’s what I like to hear. FF13 won’t be restrained by the 360’s limitations. I doubt this will shut up the XBots because he used the word ‘currently’.

You know it wont shut them up. 360 fanboys and bitter anti-PS3 new sites will continue to spread FUD and Doom and Gloom every chance they get.

But FFXIII and FFvXIII will sell insane amount of systems. FFVII and FFX both started the critical mass sales with their releases.

Too bad we have to wait so long to play them though. The Last Remnant will be here first. But if that game follow’s it predecessors then I’m probably going to hate it. (I’ve hated all the SaGa games so far)

For the longest, 360 fanboys have been claiming “(insert game here) will be coming to the 360!!!!!!1one” and the majority of folks were believing it. Finally a company isnt waffling on the answer.

Good, they need to set those fools straight.

This statement is hardly something one can go by. As fleakitten mentions, the word is “currently” which only implies that they won’t rule out a future release. If anything that would suggest to me that a 360 release is possible. How many times have we heard this about exclusives just before they end up announcing a multi-platform release? Go down the list of companies that originally announced PS3 exclusives and later changed to multi-platform releases… they all say the exact same things. “We have no plans” “We have nothing to announce” I remember the same ordeal over Assassin’s Creed and to some extent Mercenaries 2. I even remember Epic claiming UT3 was going to be a PS3 exclusive on an XBox 360 podcast!

And the best example comes from Capcom January 2007 “Capcom does not comment on rumors. Devil May Cry 4 is exclusive to PS3. No other announcements have been made.” If you’re hanging any of your hopes on any of these PR comments, prepare to be disappointed.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying FF going to any other platform is a sure thing, I’m not even going to guess if it’s likely. I don’t follow the games, I don’t like the games. All I am saying is you can’t judge some vague carefully worded comments one man says as though it will be a certainty. Things constantly change and this is, after all, a business. These companies are in it to make money… they’ll base their decisions on that and not on blind company loyalty. It wasn’t too long back in the day that Square had no trouble jumping from Nintendo’s sinking ship into Sony’s new console. Now that Sony seems to be taking on water it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Square would once again be weighing their options.
