Gran Turismo 5 – In Car
Is this a big deal? I mean, I like racing games and all, but usually I opt for the more arcade-like racers like Burnout, Need for Speed 2, MotorStorm, and Project Gotham Racing 2 (note the version – 3 sucked). And I like my F1 games, which aren’t arcadey at all, but I have to play F1! This is my long way of saying that I never got into Gran Turismo.
If you haven’t heard already, the news is that Gran Turismo 5 will have in-car views as an option. Personally, I couldn’t care anyway because I always choose the car bumper camera. (I like the sense of speed.) But there you go. Gran Turismo 5 will have it. Now you can tell me if you care.

Damn right I care! There’s no better way to re-create the driving environment then by sitting in a virtual cockpit of a 600BHP monster going down the Mulsanne straight at 220mph! Something that is sorely missing from Forza 2 the cockpit view is essential if a game calls itself a “sim”. So much more rewarding than arcade racers (they may be cars but they may as well be ufos judging by how they move etc) games like Gran Turismo requires a level of control and talent lacking in arcade racers.
Anyway, the cockpit view is excellent news. Already one up on the over hyped Forza 2!

I for one really hope we’ll get the LeMans version, that one had some in-car action as well IIRC.

I will personally stick with the bumper camera. But this new addition will certain make the franchise even more impressive and attractive.

Are you serious? Did this guy just say PGR3 sucked. Are you kidding me. For one PGR3 has in-car view and it’s really amazing. If you have ever played it in great detail (the in car view) I think you would come to appreciate how amazing it really is.
I loved it in PGR3, in-fact it was to me the best part of PGR3, well that and the garage which for some crazy reason always made me feel good. Something about having all those exotic cars parked in the garage somehow makes you feel like what it must be like to be rich.
But to say it’s no big deal is to say you have not spent much time using the in-car view. In a racing game, when it’s done right, it is a thing of beauty. And PGR3 does it right.
I would say go back and play the game again using only the in-car view for at least 4 different tracks against up to at least 4 computer cars and then come back and tell me you really can’t see why it’s a big deal.

You think Project Gotham Racing 3 is rubbish? Are you blind dumb and stupid? PGR3 even though im no xbox fan boy is the best looking racing game i have ever seen , credit where it`s due .
And as for the in car view in Gran Turismo i would see it as a bonus with the only downside being the length of time it is going to take to recreate the in car view for all the hundreds of cars . Seem`s to be the downside to the PS3 every good game tale forever to be released ! Ahh well still got PGR3/3

No need for name calling.
And let me get something out of the way first: PGR2 was my favourite racing game on any platform. And I’m a PlayStation guy!
So, what about PGR3?
PGR3 looked nice. Very nice. It drove well.
Uh… and that’s about it.
PGR3 had a very small selection of tracks compared to PGR2. Very small. And the tracks that PGR3 did have were pretty boring. I mean REALLY boring. Where’d all the good PGR2 tracks go? None of the PGR3 tracks have any character. There are no tracks that I always keep going back to because they’re so fun, like happened in PGR2. The PGR3 tracks are all boring, monotonous, and have no character.
PGR3 also has a much inferior selection of cars. At first the whole theme of “nothing under 170″ or whatever it was sounds cool. But then you actually go to choose a car and you realize that this was just the developers’ way of shafting you out of a bunch of fun cars to play. I liked the selection of cars, and the organization of them, in PGR2 to be much better.
And lastly, the interface truly sucked. I mean truly. If you argue with me on this one, you must be a sucker for punishment. The interface is REALLY hard to move around in, and it’s hard to do what you want. Even my 360-owning friends (where I play the game) admit to this. Bring back the PGR2 GUI in PGR4!!!!
Oh yeah. No 4 player splitscreen! Gaaaaaa…….. ! I don’t know why, but “next-gen” seems to imply “fewer splitscreen options and games” for some reason, which is really annoying. The new next-gen Burnout game won’t have any splitscreen support at all! What kind of crap is that?
So because there’s no 4 player splitscreen in PGR3, we actually schlepped an extra TV downstairs, and someone brought their 360 over, so that we could play system link. You can’t play 4 player that way either!!! That well and truly sucked…
