PS3 Firmware 1.81 - Better PS2 BC

I have a certain game that my friend Steve and I like to play together. It’s actually a PS2 game, because the PS3 version doesn’t have any splitscreen support. (RANT! RANT! RANT! Friggin’ buggers. RANT!) I’m talking about my F1 racing game, of course. F1 2001 by EA Sports “It’s in the game!”.

Way back when, this game used to run just fine on my PS3. Somewhere along the way, though, it stopped working on my PS3, so then I had to pull out the good old PS2 in order to play. (I can’t wait for those days to be over.) After every firmware update I’d try this game again, to no avail.

Until firmware 1.81, that is. Now the game works again! Yay! This is great news for me, of course. Has anybody else noticed any games that work again or anew with the 1.81 update?

We all know how much you like your splitscreen, and its good to see you get your fix. I have over twenty PS2 games still and they all work, woot. My old stack of PS1 games all work also.

Because no good games seem to be coming out, I decide to buy some old games for a couple of quid. It’s pretty cool to check out PS2 and PS1 games that I missed because of being too young and too poor to buy like Ico, Parappa the Rapper 2 and Incredible Crisis (has anyone even heard of Incredible Crisis?). I’m so glad that the PS3 lets me go back in time to revisit some of these classics but there’s still more work for Sony to do. Last time I checked, I couldn’t play Stuntman or Half-Life (don’t ask me why I would ever want to play these on a PS3). But that’s the brilliant thing about this generation. Games that didn’t work a couple of weeks ago might work now. I just hope they hurry up with the in-game XMB with voice-chat, over-all better Playstation Store, somehow make Guitar Hero 2 work some time before the release of Guitar Hero 3 and lower the price of the PS3 so my friends can afford it!!! Oh yeah and maybe we can connect all of our PS3s together so that all of the BC time-machine flux capacitors can link up and take us forward to September so we can start buying good games!!!!!! Why does E3 have to be so far away?

    Sorry, I was really bored.

  4. Segitz Says:

All of my PS2 games now work on the PS3 (Ok, I only have 8 EU PS2 games, the rest is US or JP imports)… So does my single PS1 game I still have (lol, Tomb Raider 1… a friend gave it to me some months ago, when he moved house and found it).

But until now, every update either broke a game (1.7 broke MGS3S but added GT4) or added games (1.8 made MGS3S work again^^ along with MGS2).

My working EU PS2 games are as follows:

    MGS2SoL
    MGS3S
    FFX
    FFX-2
    RECVX
    FIFA 2001
    DMC1
    GT3
    GT4

The rest of my games does not work as it is either JAP or US (very sad panda)

  5. Jax Myth Says:

So PS2 games from different regions don’t work on the PS3? If they did, UK PS3s may be able to play US versions of Manhunt 2.

  6. Segitz Says:

Yes, you cannot play imported PS2 games on the PS3. There’s only no region lock on PS3 games, the rest (PS1, PS2, DVD, BDROM) is still locked…
