I personally think the crowded Christmas release is a blessing. Right now I am playing and loving Bioshock. I should be about finished when Halo 3 comes out. Then I can take a break and play Mass Effect. That is honestly all the time I will have to game this year.

The great thing is when January hits CoD4 will be a great pickup and maybe I can pick it up on sale then. Then Army of Two, Orange Box, and sooo many others will be available after that, hopefully on the cheap. I am not worried about 2008 until summer at the earliest, and even then I still might be catching up with Holiday 2007/early 2008 releases.

The next 6 months will be a time to remember. This might be the greatest release window ever! Now I need to hit the lottery so I have the time to play all of these games.

I guess we have to learn that we can't really trust a release date until it is one or two weeks away. Seems like these days, publishers are willing to discard a release date if the extra time means that the game is better. I guess it's better than rushing a game but maybe the real problem is with the estimates. Wouldn't it be better if they purposefully overestimated the amount of time it would take to finish making the game so we could get a nice surprise when it comes out early?

Publishers do this every year. The leave the summer wide open for the most part, release everything in the fall, and then wonder why some games don't sell well. In a lot of cases even if you have the money to buy everything you want, do you have the time to play all of them to the extent that warrants the purchase?

I usually just try to pick which four or five games I want the most, buy those, play them, and pick up the rest after price drops the following spring or summer. I bought Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal in 2004 and just played it this past summer. I'm going to try to avoid that type of situation in the near future.
