Apparently, a PS3 Firmware 2.1 page was reportedly spotted (thanks ehandlr) on the official Spanish PS3 site. Since then, the page has been pulled. However, the included feature list and “voice changer” screenshot seem legitimate.

Features:
- Voice Changer
- DivX + VC-1 WMV support added
- Blu-Ray 1.1 Support
Is this real? When should we see this?

DivX… me happy!

I hope TVercity updates pretty fast also. I know when 360 got Divx the quality went up substantially on playback natively from transcoding on the fly.
I’d rather use my PS3 for all things media if possible.

Hmm… ordinarily, the stated inclusion of WMV would make me dubious, but still… we shall see!

VC-1 has been adopted by Blu-Ray as a standard along with AVC. So it’s inclusion isn’t really that surprising

Well, sweet, It played everything I’ve thrown at it so far.
Quality is vastly improved. Tried WMP11 and TVercity with transcoding set to off and haven’t had a single file fail so far. Even has thumbnail shots of the videos now, where before it didn’t.
