MGS4 Set for Q2 Worldwide Release

It seems Metal Gear Solid 4 is nearly done and is on course for a Q2 release:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is now playable from start to finish, and on track for a near simultaneous Q2 release in all major territories.

Having been delayed from its initially planned 2007 release, Kojima Productions developed PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 has entered the “last push”, according to assistant producer Ryan Payton, and will release in the Q2 launch window with no significant delays between major territories. This is a major boost for US and European PS3 owners, as Konami has previously been somewhat vague over the game’s release timeframe outside of Japan.

I’m going to be very interested in seeing if MGS4 will boost PS3 sales in all regions. It should shift a few consoles over a short period of time but I hope Sony do a MGS4 bundle to entice PS2 owners who haven’t upgraded yet.

I have high hopes for MGS4 but I’m not too fussed on MGS Online just yet.

MGS 3 Online was awesome. Surprisingly well done. I can’t wait for a PS3 version.

It depends on how well they do the party system, comms, stats etc.

Resistance is the only game that’s got it spot on so far for the PS3 but I got sick of that a couple of months ago.

CoD4 is great despite it’s many flaws and stability issues but I play on my own more than I ever did on Resistance simply because it isn’t geared towards playing with friends/clan mates at this moment in time.

If MGO is similar to Resistance in that regard then it will be massive.

Can someone post exactly what “Quarter 2″ encompasses? Such as a date range.

I think the online elements of MGS will be very good. From what i have seen the online is geared around squads and team play rather then individual solo play so i would expect that the comms and party elements will have to be important and well done if the actual online gameplay is going to work.

If Hideo and Konami apply the same amount of time and polish to this as they do the main game i think we are going to be in for a treat.

Day one purchase for me and i should have my shiny new HD TV by Q2 to enjoy it on!

Ya, I loved MGS3 Online. I was very sad once they took the servers down.

Glad to hear it’s coming along. I’m excited to see what MGS4 Online will be like. MGS3 online was very unique but fun too.

It depends how they are applying the Q2, if it is running annually then it will be April – May 08, the second quarter of the year. If they are applying this to financial years which start in April then Q2 of that would be July – September.

Either way we should have it before October. I expect that the Q2 they are referring to is the first one so anytime between April and May.

Calendar Q2 is April through June. There are twelve months in a year and three months in each quarter.

Developers are notoriously optimistic. When they say “Q2″, they usually mean the very end of Q2 (late June) barring an official delay.

If you date back to previous articles from various sources, it was speculated that Konomi is engineering the release of MGS4 for Q2 in order to boost their profits and growth outlook for 2008. Starting Q2 with one of their biggest release games of recent years is a sure way to do that. Now, this is all speculation, but in a business world….

    Worldwide release.
    Yeah, right.
Worldwide release means to me available on the same day. Not the same week or months like previous ‘worldwide releases’
