Recorded sales are just that, sales that were recorded. These are to costumers. Retailers holding your product is not considered a sale. You are an idiot. What you are thinking is called a “production shipment” this is when your console is shipped from PRODUCTION to RETAIL. That is the method Microsoft still use, and they happen to be the only one still tracking sales in this misleading way.

When Sony was pulling well ahead of them, they made it so any company wanting to carry their console had to carry a certain supply amount. This meant piles of 360s in storage rooms, which were counted as a SALE FIGURE for them. It’s underhanded and completely pathetic.

Microsoft is pure dead. It’s even more pathetic when you consider that they account for replacement units as SHIPPED, and then go on to blur these into being a SALE FIGURE. Completely pathetic. The electronic product with the largest failure rate in history without a mass recall, is using that weakness to fluff their SALES FIGURES, and still comes up short…. wow.

But from my understanding production shipments is reporting shipped. Recorded sales are sold through to customers. If it’s your way then really they didn’t change anything, since they used to report shipped before.

Either way it doesn’t change the numbers of this article. Only waters down the 360 numbers.

I’m pretty sure recorded sales is referring to sales to retailers, not sales to consumers as NPD/MediaCreate track.

But either way. I still say Sony Financial statements are sold through not shipped as of last July as Sony stated in a conference call. But you can still think both do shipped if you want.

NPD measures sales to consumers (in North America) which is NOT affected by channel stuffing.

Sony+Microsoft quarterly financial reports show global sales to retailers which IS affected by channel stuffing.
