April: The month of the PS3? | PS3Blog.net

  • Metal Gear Solid 4 Online Preview
  • Grand Theft Auto 4 Ships (multi-platform)
  • Gran Turismo Prologue Ships
  • DualShock 3 Controller Launches in North America (both SIXAXIS and rumble functionality)
  • PSN UI redesign
  • Public Trial of PlayStation Home. (Not official, but there is a variety of evidence suggesting this)

The PS3 had a really strong November in 2007, but I think April will probably edge that out as the best month so far for the PS3. These are six huge bombshells all in one month. I can’t wait!

Footnote: PS2 JRPG fans get Persona 3 FES and Baroque in April as well.
EDIT: A few additions

  • The Warhawk patch is out in April. Which includes Home support. So possible Home launch in April as well πŸ˜€

Yep, easter time is always good for the games industry (i know its easter in March this year, but its around the same time) the memory’s of xmas have faded and we are all desperate to spend our cash again, queue the releases of games!

Personally i am looking forward to GT5 Prologue, Warhawk Patch and the hope that a UK BETA of MGS4 will happen….. thats a lot of hope i know!

Good addition, Tosh. A Home public beta would be huge.

I can’t believe how much they are cramming into this month.

  • The Easter bunny of 2008 brings more happiness and gifts then Santa Clause did in 2007…. NICE I likey πŸ˜€

Most of that list leaves me unimpressed. Perhaps it’s because November of last year was such a good month for gaming in general. I’ve still got some critically acclaimed games to make my way through that I just haven’t had time for. None of those games really appeal to me at all. MGS, GT and GTA are all franchise I don’t particularly like. GTA is the only one I’m remotely interested in and I’d pick that one up on the 360. Though the exclusive episodic content gives me the feeling I’ll be nickel and dimed to death for achievements so I’ll probably just wait for a Crackdown 2 or something like it. Plus I just picked up God of War on the PSP… it’s gonna take a lot for any game this year to top it. And of course the teaser for God of War on the PS3 will be enough to keep me excited for the next year or so until it comes out!

I would’ve been a lot more interested in the Dual Shock being launched but I just caved in and had one imported from Japan. Once I saw that they’d be $55 in the US… and that they were going on eBay for almost exactly the same price I decided to order one. It should be here by tomorrow if it’s not in my mail box today. I am excited for that, but I’ll probably be less excited about it in April. I am looking forward to firing up GoW 1&2 again. I only wish the 40gig in the bedroom would do backwards compatibility. Hopefully that update will come soon, that would make a month for me.

And while I appreciate the idea behind Home, the beta so far has been really unimpressive. I almost think a widespread beta would be counter productive. Based on all the hype over Home so far it looks like people are more excited by the idea of it than actually having it. At least that’s how it was with me.

The only thing in that list I’m really REALLY excited about is the PSN redesign. I’m hoping for downloadable movies! I’d love to see some 1080P offerings and to really have someone finally do a download store right. I love what the 360 has done but they’re really trying to cater towards the college kid demographic and I’m not really that into a lot of what they put up there atm. To me the potential of the PSN video store is one of the biggest selling points of the PS3. It seems like a no-brainer. Especially with the Sony movie library at their disposal.

This is really quite interesting news…
I’m hoping for Home beta in April as well. What makes that seem more likely is that I saw someone play around with Home at a local EB store’s PS3. Some dude was trying create his avatar on there, so I didn’t get a chance to use it myself.
The other items (Dualshock3 and GT5 Prologue) I will comment on…
I have had both since last December, and it’s interesting to note that lots of games in NA already have dualshock support: DMC4, GT5 Prologue, PJM, Lost Planet, etc.
Secondly, I was scared to think how frequent I would have to charge the Dualshock3 controller, if a game used vibration constantly. Well, I have been playing PMJ and Lost Planet for the last week, and the controller is still going strong. Amazing, since Lost Planet vibrates very *often* (guns, explosions, monsters, ground shakes, walking VS, etc… all produce ample vibration).

  • Ha, April just is THE month of the year… ALWAYS, since April 15th is my freaking birthday^^ (And Leonardo da Vincis too, for that matter… as well as the catastrophe of the Titanic^^)

But first, GT5P will hit soon πŸ˜€ I am already pretty nervous about it^^

Hopefully this isnt a early April Fools joke.
