MGS4 Cutscenes, grab some popcorn [Update]

There are cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid 4 that are 90 minutes long. Not total, that’s just one cut scene! So be prepared with some munchies. But you can skip the cutscenes or pause them. Konami is really going all out for MGS4, no wonder they ran out of room on the 50GB Blu-ray disc. It will also require a 4.6GB install, which I’m okay with. Give me MGS4 already!

MGS4 features 90-minute cutscenes, 4.6GB installation

[Update]

Seems the rumor is false:

“I’ve beat the game twice, and am the author of the forthcoming [GamePro] review,” Shuman said. “Ninety-minute-long cinemas in MGS4 sounds like an exaggeration. Like the other MGS games, MGS4 definitely has a cinematic quality. And yes, some of the cut-scenes in the game are elaborate and occasionally lengthy. But not a one, to my recollection, even approaches 90 minutes.”

    Pffft…

The pic is bad… the cutscenes are equally important in a MGS game as the playing itself!! Watching a cutscene isn’t “waiting”…

  2. bunnyhero Says:

thank goodness their pausable. but can you rewind and fastforward? even on shorter cutscenes in games i’ll miss something important because of a phone call and i can’t rewind to relisten to that bit :/

  3. Paranoimia Says:

Ordinarily, I don’t mind cutscenes in games. Those in Uncharted, for example, or Resistance… absolutely fine.

But 90 minutes? Taking the piss a bit, I think.

  4. macdumpy Says:

Don’t like them? Skip them. I would guess that they will be available from an ‘extras’ menu, so you can watch them when you want anyways.

For me, I loved the MGS stories, so I’m actually looking forward to the huge cutscenes. MGS, for me, has always been 50/50 gaming/story.

  5. Jason Says:

90 minutes of wordy monologues and convoluted backstory = zzzzzzzz……..

  6. Sporty Says:

The sad truth is that the 90 min cutscene stories spread like wildfire but confirmation that the original story is false will barely get a mention.

  7. Trigga_Tybalt Says:

i read about this earlier and thought it was pretty cool and different but now i have read they are not that long i am not really disappointed. i definitely think the worst thing about metal gear games is the phone and doorbell. i am so turning my phone off and disconnecting that bell june 12.

  8. Mike Says:

Yeah 90 minutes sounded ridiculous, I think the only game that ever did that was one of those Xenosaga RPGs. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is something that approaches 30 minutes early in the game or towards the end. But you can skip them, so there isn’t much point complaining about them. I’m just glad another AAA single player game is coming out that won’t be over in six hours.

  9. Bilzac Says:

    OHHHHHHHHHh

  10. Jerry Says:

The Sad thing about this is that I was looking forward to playing and watching a movie of a cutscene. I mean an hour and a half is totally nuts but I would have been fine with paying 80 bucks for something that can do that. Whats even worse is that this game comes out on the 12th and I go to Aruba for a week on the 13th. Boo to timing
