People hate it when they first get something (buying real estate in vice and san adreas) and then they take it away (gta 4). In my opinion the game is great. I love it, but I can enjoy myself cruising around in the city. I can understand a lot of people getting bored. The multiplayer is very nice too. While waiting for people to join you can tune on the radio and it gives a nice touch. Often I play GTA race, you guys should do that more.

Overall, it's a milestone game - with the immensity, the complexity, the richness of the environment, etc. I find the notion of getting upgrades by improving relationships with some of the characters pretty interesting.

That said...

The missions can be a bit tedious especially the ones where you have to travel from your spawn to the mission-giver and then to the mission itself (not to mention having to go to the weapons shop first for new body armour and bullets). If you fail the mission, you do it all over again.

The multiplayer is like alot of FPS multiplayers. You run around stupidly in a dark environment, shoot at someone and then get killed; half the time you don't even know where the killer came from; you then respawn in some random place and do it again.

"SL33PY Says:

GTA 4 is a great game, absolutely. It does set some new standards, no one can deny that. But, -and here it comes- it does have its flaws. You earn tons of cash, but there is no good way to spend it. After the story the game loses a lot of it’s potential. Some things could have been taken even further (911 calls), but I’m actually happy with those things the way they are now. The thing that bugs me the most is the following… CARS POPPING UP EVERYWHERE!"

that is the worst thing ever! i'm always looking around. its particularly bad on bridges and with boats. really exposes how old their engine is if it still has the same flaws as GTA3.

anyone else find GTA games mind blowing until you discover how it works and then its just a series of scripted events. its a shame but it was fun while it lasted. 93.50% now :D

I have noticed that the car you are driving suddenly becomes very common. Get the Sultan RS and all of a sudden they are everywhere. I like this though because it means when I trash the car I went some effort to get it is easy to steal a replacement.

I am loving the game. I didn't really expect too much. The relationships are really not that hard to manage and if you don't want to you don't need to, as far as I can tell.

The city is beautiful, the humour is excellent, driving a motorcycle in the skate park is excellent.

However, I wish there was more to do. A golf course (with golf carts!), parachutes, planes... etc. But I am sure this will come in the next installment or maybe in dl content... if the PS3 ever gets this.

CARS POPPING UP EVERYWHERE!

Picture this: I'm in a chase, cops crawling up my ass. The road in front of me is empty. I look back to see where the cops are. One second later when I'm looking to the front again, there is this GIANT TRAFFIC JAM that came out of fucking nowhere. WTF?! This was a problem in GTA3 and it is still there!

Also, when I'm driving a super sports car (the 'vette fe) and drive to my little safe house on the northern island, there are like 10 'vettes parked. I mean, it can't be that hard to bind certain areas of the game with certain types / conditions of cars?

That's my 2 cents

Those moments are interesting, but they're one-trick scripted ponies, and they get old really fast. As exemplified by the 911 callers above, there are lots and lots of things that are half-done, and it completely negates the interesting moments for me.
In this GTA, I find the *game* is also awfully bland outside of the missions. There is the internet to read, TV to watch, sure, but as far as gaming... nothing.
The relationship thing was bad enough already in GTA SA, in this one, it's a major PITA.

I love it! :o) I was driving down the freeway to the southern coast of the western island (can't remember the name) and went though the industrial bit... I had to stop and look in awe at the flames coming out of the chimneys! Fantastic :o)

I also had a little too much fun stealing big vehicles from the airport and bringing chaos to the city...

Francois, If you fail a mission you can select re-try from your phone which retriggers the mission without you having to drive back to the starting point.

"Once, I saw a guy who got hit by a car while we was crossing the street, the car stopped, but the man was stuck under the car He was inconcious. The first thing I did was to call 911, the cops and the ambulance showed up, up to that point I was impressed by the fact that the game could let me try to help this poor guy. But they did nothing for the poor guy"

I also called the firefighters when my place was on fire... but they did nothing. :/

But they did nothing for the poor guy :-(. I guess Rockstar did not expect compassion from the players.

I take the cab a lot. Once we were in a traffic jam on a one way, I pressed the square button to tell the driver I was in a hurry. The driver did a 180 degree turn using the sidewalk and started driving against the traffic, we ended up stuck near a pole on the side of the road with cars all around... I had to press X to jump straight to my destination.

I like the game, but It eats up a lot of your time just for driving around , specially when you fail at mission, you have to drive all the way back, and maintaining the relation with your friends feels a little too much like a sim game.
