MGS4 Quick Impressions

Wow, where to start, and not give any spoilers. Even from booting up the game you’re excited to play it. The title screen is just beautiful to look at. You are truly immersed into the world right from the start. There is so much going on around you. Graphics in MGS4 are a sight to behold, I’m only viewing it in 720p, but it’s still amazing to look at. The cut scenes are actually interactive. I won’t say how, but it’s fun. Everything is so fluid and a joy to watch. The Octocam is fun to use as well. I’m not that far yet, just barely started Act 2. Even though I’m not that far there was still MGS4 style comedy, which I love.

Like Gary said in the Shoutbox, you can set up your bluetooth headset for the codec. It’s so cool to hear Otacon in your ear giving you game tips.

I can see myself playing through this game several times easily. So far this generation I haven’t played any single player game after I beat it. I just don’t have any desire to. But with MGS4, everything is so dynamic. Since I was part of the MGO Beta I only played MGO (Metal Gear Online) for a few minutes. But it seems more polished.

Even if you are not a die hard Metal Gear fan, give this game a shot. Try it on easy if you have to.

    Nice.

I’ll probably pick up this game, even if I have to play it on easy…

The ‘advertisements’ in this are funny. I think there are about 12 different ‘ads’ aswell. Not 100% sure about that though.

We have to get some sort of PS3Blog.Net MGO meet going on, looks like quite a few die hard Metal Gear fans visit this place so it could be good to meet up and shoot it out on the Metal Gear universe.

I already have to urge to replay act one, and I just started act two… THIS IS AWESOME. Not even GTA4 did this to me^^

I see myself playing this game at least 4 times a year from now on^^

I also played a round of MGO… man… the LE was worth EVERY cent I splashed down yesterday^^

Actually, I found Act 1 kinda boring what with the kajillion cut scenes, the poor voice acting, the ponderous cut-scenes with the soap opera subplots and the second hand sci-fi. As for the comedy, I’ll have to admit I chuckled when I saw the guy trying to take a dump inside a barrel but this character’s incontinence becomes most of the comic relief if you don’t count the annoying monkey. Count me out on thinking see a guy crap his pants is funny.

I’m looking forward to finally getting to play against the bosses. All in all, not enough action, too much talking. As for playing PS3 games over — try playing Resistance again, quite addicting. Right now this game is looking like it will be on the resell list once I’m finished.

Apparently when you acquire the digital camera you can take photos with the pad that’s connected to port 2, while you’re playing the game. You can also export the photos to the XMB!

    Two questions: maybe spoilers

Do I need a real ipod or Snakes game ipod to play the mps3 i’ve been finding in the game?

Anyone notice Snake’s using a Playstation controller when he’s controlling the MK II?

I picked up a copy of the game today. First impression was that the sound was truly awesome. I have a regular 5.1 digital system using optical hookup and this game has the best sound yet. The graphics are also a cut above other games, plays at full high def rather than upscaled low res. A consequence of that is the levels seem kind of short, maybe about 100 feet of gameplay before another cut scene and another loading of data. I’ve only played through the first couple scenes though so maybe that will change.

I noticed if you pan around with the right stick when Otocon is on video you can see he has a Mac. A nice touch. Lots of other cool things in the game too.

    Worth 60$ for sure.

The best game i played ever, period. There are a lot of WOW moments. Eg. when I discover the iPod and it’s in-game interface. I wish I can download songs into the in-game ipod for Snake to listen to. :-) Another WOW moment is the interactive cut-scene. It’s probably the first game where you can view a cut scene in any camera position. The third WOW moment is to see Sunny dancing. :-)

I have played Act 1 3 times already, just to perfect my sneaking skills and try to collect as many items as I can.

I wonder why GTAIV get a perfect 10 across the board but MGS4 doesn’t… I agree with the IGN(?) comment.. if I can give 11 to a game, MGS4 will be it.
