From the PlayStation Blog:
Just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.42) is now available for download. This update improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software.
It also supposedly makes the Trophies load a lot faster. I haven’t downloaded it yet so can’t confirm or deny this is true.

Trophies seem the same to me (i.e. bloody slow).
These firmware and network updates are getting to be a pain. Firmware’s take about an hour (maybe it’s just slow in Australia) and I tried burnout the other day and that took around 3 hours (!) of non-backgroundable download.

The update went fine for me. No noticable changes.
