Wow, "Megulito" has a LOT of great ideas that would greatly improve the PS3 experience. I also agree with the author's list of 3.

But most of the stuff posted by Megulito have never even crossed my mind, yet they would save me a lot of hassle, or add little extra abilities that would be greatly appreciated and would make the PS3 that much better.

Especially that Sony calendar thing. They could just integrate it with the news update thing.

Also seeing how Sony wants to connect everybody so much, I don't understand why they don't just include a gaming board. Clicking on an icon in the XMB would take you to a list of mini-games that you could play alone or compete with other PSN users.

Megulito's list really got me thinking. Why doesn't Sony allow us to customize our PSN profiles more like Myspace or Facebook? Just add an extra tab where we could blog, etc.

All these little things Megulito listed and some of the stuff I mentioned would bring users together and make the PSN feel more like a community.

I can only hope Sony eventually come upon these ideas. Xbox Live would stand no chance against this full fledged list. ^_^

By the way, is there anyway we can get in touch with Sony and offer them ideas for firmware updates?

Henning, do you have any way to get in touch with Sony at all and give them yours and our ideas? I believe PlayStation Blog or something has had a special event before where people could give their ideas to Sony or something of that sort.

1 would be very nice. DLNA is a kinda ****ed design (not surprising - microsoft had a lot to do with it), and it's really intended for having a single (insecure of course) per-household, central server machine on all the time which does a lot of the work, and then has relatively brainless 'renderers' which show the content. i.e. the 'big beefy microsoft home server' model, not the tiny embedded server-on-a-hard-drive NAS model that the market has actually embraced. I'
I'm sure all the media patent holders don't mind it either, since the server needs all the software licenses to grok the data, and so do all the renderers, the consumer has the priviledge of having to pay for some royalties many times over.

Since the ps3 has a lot more guts than a 'media renderer' needs, it could really do all the work itself - and do it a lot better. Since Sony have no interest in selling server boxes with windoze licenses - unlike microsoft, they really have no reason to push this stuff. And given that hardware is getting smaller/faster/smarter all the time, the DLNA 'central-server' model is already outdated. A network mount would be great though.

The other things mentioned don't seem important to me for a game machine/media centre. Cross-game chat is a bit strange - sounds like you want it to be a telephone too?

Also note they can't really use things like samba for network share access, or chrome for a web browser. Because of the licenses (at least in part), they would need to provide not only any source code they used, but also the ability to change those components in the running system. Not going to happen. So they are stuck with licensing/authoring inferior products or simply going without.

In response to Megulito, you are able to see when your friends were last on....
Just not from the XMB :(

If you've linked your PSN account, you can see what they're doing and when they were last on by going to http://www.us.playstation.com/MyAccount/PSNL/FriendList

Why they can't pull that info into the XMB is boggling

How about when you import a Music CD to the HD the PS3 grabs the album cover art and maybe the lyrics automatically? I know you can get the album art htat being served from TVersity, etc but it would be nice if the PS3 did this automatically?
