New Blu-ray movies for the week 9.22.08 |

Anything for you this week? In other Blu-ray news the Castle of Cagliostro will be released on Blu-ray December 3rd in Japan. This could be the start of something great. It could mean that eventually all the Studio Ghibli movies will released on Blu-ray. I would love a huge box set of all the movies together including Ponyo (not out in North America yet). If you don’t know what I’m talking about you must not like anime.

* America’s Greatest Monuments: Washington D.C.
* Animalia: Welcome to the Kingdom
* Blow
* Cirque Du Soleil – Corteo
* Deception
* The Godfather – The Coppola Restoration
* L.A. Confidential
* Leatherheads
* Madagascar
* Run, Fatboy, Run
* Sex and the City — The Movie
* Shrek the Third
* Stories From the Vaults: Season One
* Sunrise Earth: Seaside Collection (Blu-ray)
* The Way to Paradise – Music Experience in 3-Dimensional Sound Reality

    The Godfather should be very good. Though I might wait for the entire 3 movie package before I dive in. I have a feeling that this Christmas is going to be pretty heavy with BD Box sets and the like.
    I actually think that Blue Ray sales are going to be of the better quality films for the short term. Especially when movies like Shrek the Third are competing against movies like LA Confidential and the Godfather. Only so many discretionary entetainment dollars to go around.

    I hope to see all Studio Giibli’s film on Blu-ray soon too. That is one reason I haven’t bought many DVD version of their film from Disney. I am waiting for the Blu-ray version.

    For anime on Blu-ray, North American’s release is all right for some people. I personally find it quite lacking. Japan has way better choices right now.

    The only Blu-ray must have right now is the BBC documentary Planet Earth in my opinion (The BBC version, not the Discovery version!)

    Blade Runner is also a must have. Blue-Ray does it justice. It really helps the look of the film. It was transfered with care.
