MS is handing it to Sony because every ad that's on TV seemingly ends with a 360 bumper. The amount of coverage for games that MS is buying from games sites is huge. How many Gears and Fable II articles a day are showing up on games blogs? Molyneux is everywhere. so is Cliffy B. Where's Ted Price. Isn't Resistance coming out.
MS is building a larger hype bubble this Christmas. I haven't seen one LBP ad on TV. It's out next week. Where's the blitz. While MS is lowering prices and selling a few more consoles. The MS PR machine is writing it up as monster sales. In Marketing. Perception is Reality. And the Perception is that MS is winning and garnering most of the attention.
I'll agree that the PS3 has a good lineup of games. But the perception is that MS is the owner of those games and Sony is tagging along for the ride.

I just think Sony should be doing more to promote their system.

I don't see how MS are 'handing it' to Sony when both platforms have largely the same titles coming out this Christmas.

Quite the opposite to what seems to be the general consensus (even here on a PS3 site), I personally struggle to find anything to make the 360 worth buying. The titles I want are either multi-platform, or exclusive to PS3. I'm not into RPGs, so it doesn't matter how many of those MS have bought exclusive rights to... and the Gears series aside, there's nothing else I'm interested in.

In fact, with at least ten multi-platform and exclusive titles out between now and Christmas that I want, this will be the best Christmas for gaming that I've had in a VERY long time, thanks to my PS3.

Eh, I still lay it on Sony. the story's been out for how many days and they did nothing to dissuade it? Add in the fact they've been teasing TGS bombshells for months now. There's no reason why they couldn't have cleared things up, except that perhaps even SCEA might not have known what is going in their japan arm since they all work separately.

Each company is responsible for it's own PR and expectations.
This is Sony's fault. SOny is just behind the times. They don't understand online, They certainly don't understand online media or media expectations. MS is handing them their ass. The 360 is the VHS of this age. It's crappy technology but it will win because I believe Sony is too arrogant to believe that an inferior technical solution can beat them. And MS is handing it to them.

Still, it was a shoddy press release on Japanese side. Instead of listing the games, they just went with 'unannounced'. Shoddy.. Sure it was mis-interpreted, but Sony also claimed it won an emmy for sixaxis:
http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/01-08-2007/0004501397&EDATE

But it didn't, and they had to retract it:

Oh and Rich...

"Why would anyone choose a PS3 for $399 when you get get a 360 for $199."

I think the hard drive definitely matters to the average person. I just had a fairly detailed conversation with a guy at work who was very loudly confusing Halo 3 and Call of Duty and wanted the console mostly to play "Madden". I actually tried to talk him into the $199 360 and without missing a beat he asked why he'd buy the one without the HD. My sister asked the same question this past week. People aren't completely blind to the need for a hard drive. It might be a little pricier but I think that works in the PS3s favor.

Secondly, it ignores the biggest selling point of the PS3 imo. The Blu-Ray player. That's like two gifts with one stone. I think that will more than help to keep Sony from getting spanked. It might not "win" but it'll do enough. Think of the sales of the PS3 to date... it's had no major titles to sell consoles with the exception of MGS4. And hell, Blu-Ray is why I own two PS3s right now.

I think Sony will do fine the Christmas and the the Blu-Ray features will be it's biggest saving grace. I think Blu-Ray is just starting to truly take off.

I've long since stopped looking to Japan for anything really that exciting in terms of video gaming. Sure my wife's gotten me to enjoy LocoRoco and Patapon far more than is probably healthy (both of which did get sequels, yeah). And I really get in the mood for Katamari, 360Voice claims it's my most played 360 game. But as for a serious gaming experience I can't think of a single title I'm looking for from Japan. Honestly outside of those three games I can't think of any. EXCEPT one.

Where the hell was Kingdom Hearts 3? That and God of War 3 are the two games that I'll personally use to justify gaming on the PS3. I was sure the rumor was that Square was going to announce it this TGS. A KH3 release would've made that the year of the PS3 for me. Now I worry it'll peak in March with God of War (arguably being my game of the year already) and then I'll struggle to find another title for that year.
