i beat the game in just under 50 hours doing a fair amount of side quests and reached rank 18. although i never found the dog.
must say that this game is amazing. i've been talking about it to everyone and people who who don't even like games are fascinated by it. only problems i have encountered are the odd freeze but it only stalled on me twice to force a reset so no biggie. the trophies are very well implemented too and i can't wait to start my second play through to get the rest.

Childhood simulation? Slavers? If they are side quests I haven't done them yet. I'm currently on the last chapter for the Survival Guide. Over 25hrs and still haven't progressed with the main story at all.

Dogmeat is a permanent resident at my 'apartment' though. The stupid dog kept getting killed. :-(

Actually, I double checked, and I finished in 24 hours according to game clock. I did a few side quests, but clearly there were many more. I wasn't rushing at all, and really took my time on some parts.

I always play the "good" karma path when there is a choice, but I had to break that a few times during my playthrough. Did you play the childhood simulation (without a walkthrough guide)? Or did you have to deal with the slavers?

You finished the game in 20hrs, Darrin? I'm 21hrs in and haven't even done the 2nd part of the main story. I've been exploring and doing side quests.

It's a far superior game to Oblivion. I'll definitely play through a 2nd time and be a complete bad arse rather than aim for the good karma. Not sure if my conscience will allow me to be evil though...

I loved this game... I played hours on end... but the main story... UGHH... first of all it is totally anticlimactic, short and ends boring...

Some sidequests however are fantastic!

But, there are some kinks I had... there were clearly not enough weapons and enemys... I found myself killing the same enemys over and over again. Also the animations, just like in Oblivion sucked. The game crashed on me SEVERAL times, which was mostly not an issue (it autosaves every time you enter a new building etc. which happens quite often) and also all the train stations were boring, as they all looked alike.

But I do like the Trophies... none of them are chores (unlike many other games like MS2, Warhawk...).

And no DLC makes me sad... Maybe I'll get them for the PC, but that is a very big maybe.
