Chuck, the TV Show

I picked up Chuck Season One on Blu-ray last week, and we’ve watched some of the episodes over the weekend. (When season two comes out on Blu-ray, I’ll be buying that too.) All in all, the disc set is a pretty good deal considering that it holds the whole season and I paid… um… I think about $40 Canadian for it. (I got it at Amazon.) The quality isn’t perfect – sometimes it looks a little grainy. But all in all I’m not too disappointed.

Of course, it’s hard to pay attention to the picture quality when you’re watching Chuck! I never watch reruns, but I’m watching season one of Chuck again just because it’s so much fun. In case you didn’t know, Chuck is the main character of the show, and has a bunch of CIA secrets stuffed in his brain. So he gets a beautiful CIA handler assigned to pretend to be his girlfriend, and a tough-as-nails yet very fun to watch NSA handler becomes his undercover co-worker. They are Sarah Walker, played by Yvonne Strahovski, and John Casey, played by Adam Baldwin. The cast also includes a bunch of other great characters, including his best friend Morgan (or “Organ”), his sister Ellie, and her fiance Mr. Awesome.

The show is great. It’s a real treat. I highly suggest you check it out. Tonight is the season two finale, so it’s your last chance this year to see what a fun show this is.

One of the great things about this show is that it appeals both to me, a software developer, and my wife, a stay at home mom. It’s got a lot of action, they’re not afraid to actually kill someone on the show, but it’s also very funny.

I wish I got paid to write this stuff, but I’m not. It’s just a great show. Check it out.

Uncharted 2 Multiplayer

It’s official. Uncharted 2 will have a full set of multiplayer co-op and competitive modes. Trailer here, video interview here.

From here:

  • The beta version allows you to play at the same level shown so far, a citizen of Nepal, both by co-operating in multiplayer.
  • Both modes can not be played in split-screen, but only by exploiting the connection online.
  • The co-operative mode is playable with up to 3 players: Nathan Drake , Chloe Frazer and third more like a guide of the place
  • The co-operative story is different from single-player story
  • Mini-bosses are present in each section
  • You can help another player before he dies
  • Players will revive after a few seconds
  • Multiplayer mode you can play up to 8 players, 4 on each side
  • The missions available for the multiplayer mode are now 2:
    • Rid the territory by killing enemies (like ‘deatmatch’)
    • Retrieve a gold item (as a treasure) from the enemy territory and carry him safely in his (like ‘capture flag’)
  • Using the headset is very useful especially to overcome an important point. The weapons available are up to 2 (one gun and another one among rifle, machine gun, grenade launcher) and some hand grenades.

The first Uncharted is still one of the best technical showcase titles on the market and the game mechanics are extremely smooth and polished. I’m glad that they are really growing the game beyond the standard single-player, but there are a flood of great CTF/deathmatch shooters available. Will this differentiate itself? Either way, the single player is going to be worth pre-ordering the game for my tastes.

Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta

This appears to be a leak of the “electrifying” announcement that Sony has planned for Monday:

  • Purchase Infamous and get access to the Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta. Obviously, Uncharted 1 didn’t have any multiplayer and they haven’t mentioned that yet, so I would assume we will get details on that tomorrow.
  • Pre-Order Infamous and get access to the Infamous downloadable demo.
