Motion Sensing at E3 | PS3Blog.net

We are hearing popular rumors that

  • Microsoft will show motion sensing camera technology.
  • Sony will show a new motion sensing game controller.

Now of course, we’ve already seen these technologies quite a bit: Sony has done a lot of novelty titles with motion sensing camera technology and both Nintendo and Sony have motion sensing game controllers.

In hindsight, both technologies are disappointing. They drummed up a lot of initial excitement, shown some promising early uses, and then kind of faded out without ever really delivering any substantial gameplay evolution.

The core technology has been working, stable, and mass produced for quite a while, it’s just never made the next step beyond polished tech demos into genuine AAA hit content.

I’m sure both Microsoft and Sony know this. If they are planning on making a big splash out of these technologies, they must have something much bigger to show.

  1. If the PS3 were to launch Ratchet and Clank with motion control. That would be great.

If they could just keep motion sensing out of my gaming that would be great. I bought the Wii classic controller in hopes that most games would support it…turns out I was wrong.
