I was finally going to try it out this morning too.. Ah, well. Did any of you try it? Seemed like a great program. Hopefully they are able to work around it. But if you haven’t updated to firmware 2.80, at the moment it isn’t forcing you to update.
Sony has also put a damper on Open Remote Play. Those tricky bastards have seemingly “poisoned” the video stream… If you start the ORP client and establish a Remote Play connection, you’ll notice the video quickly becomes garbled nonsense and eventually the client bails. The good news — you can still make the connection, meaning the authentication hasn’t changed any…

I’ve made it a priority not to do any system updates until atleast a week or 2 later. By that time any glithes and brick causing errors will be sorted out.

lol,
Seriously this is absolutely retarded.
“Oh noes my hacks don’t work anymore because Sony are updating their Systems”
You do know that Sony are trying to prevent hacks? Right? It’s hardly brick caysing error or a glitch. It’s either one of two things:
1. Sony deliberately didn’t want people to use open remote play
2. For whatever reason they made a change, and that means the code for the open remote play program doesn’t work with the new update.

In any case if your 2nd point is the actual case, it should have been spotted during QA and they are to blame none the less.

don’t really care….I either use DNLA, or my 500 gig pocket portable usb HDD.

@ SL33PY
WHY!?
Open remote play is non of Sony’s business. Saying that it should be checked would be reasonable if it had been firmware meant for 3rd party applications, but XMB isn’t.

Yes, this is true. They would prefer that you buy a PSP or one of their new cell phones which have a Remote Play client.
2. For whatever reason they made a change, and that means the code for the open remote play program doesn’t work with the new update.
No, this is not true. The fact that ORP doesn’t work with FW 2.80 is not a side effect of some other change made. They have deliberately updated the PS3′s Remote Play server in order to disable ORP.
The good news is that I found out what they did today. They’ve employed MAC address filtering. That is, client connections must coming from the MAC address of a registered PSP.
If you set your PC’s MAC address to that of the PSP’s MAC address, it works. I’m working on a more elegant solution for those that can’t do this, and for remote (from the Internet) connections.
