Sony Patents Emotion Engine Emulation For Cell Processors aka PS2 Backwards Compatibility |

Not sure how and not sure when, but Sony has patents to this technology that directly makes me think BC is coming back eventually. This is the first remote hint that this could be returning to us at some point and time.

For all those without a BC PS3, this may be your dream come true.

Patent Info

  • I hope it comes back. Honestly I use the memory card reader more than PS2 Backwards Compatibility right now. But it’s nice to have for when you need it, that’s for sure.

May be included with the much-rumored PS3 Slim

  • EE was already emulated in PAL 60GB PS3s!

  • It wasn’t Segitz, those ps3’s have the actual EE chip on board. Two years ago there was a job opening at Sony for a software engineer to design and develop software emulation for PS1, PS2 and PSP emulation that needed to be compatible with both PS3 and PS4.

  • As far as I can tell this is news that isn’t.

ps I need an edit button :s

  • No Sleepy… the PAL PS3s ALWAYS emulated the EE in software. Only the GS remained (remember the outcry?), because emulating that one is MAJOR work, as it is a VERY quirky chip.

maybe its a firmware 3.0 or something update that will be included.
