Valve previously said they’d never make anything for PS3. Well now they’ve suddenly changed their mind and are now “up” on the idea and are hiring PS3 coders Doug Lombardi spoke at a Left 4 Dead 2 event today;
“we have to get people under our roof who are dedicated, talented PS3 guys and then all bets are off. We can take the same sort of strides and get the quality out of the box and offer the same support post-launch on that platform, as well.”
Why the sudden change of heart? I have no idea but its good to hear they are interested in supporting the platform. Unfortunately though, it doesn’t sound like they will be making any PS3 releases anytime soon so i wouldn’t hold you breath for a Left 4 Dead 2, let alone 1…

They’re kinda missing the boat at this point. By the time they get anything out people will have already settled on something like MW2, Warhawk, or Killzone 2.

Or, Valve could do a patch for the PS3 version of The Orange Box, which as you know, is incredibly buggy. No more slide shows.

maybe the change of heart because of all the high quality titles and more and more third party support we’ve been getting from other developers

And of course, take that with the CVG interview up on Kotaku.
“We weren’t able to deliver the same type of product on PS3 and PS2 for that matter that we were on the 360 and PC.
[...]
Until we have the ability to get a PS3 team together, until we find the people who want to come to Valve or who are at Valve who want to work on that, I don’t really see us moving to that platform.
We’ve kind of learned a lesson in that again, if we were customers of that product on PlayStation, we’d feel like we sort of got the stepchild version of the product while the guys on the PC and the 360 got the sweet version of it.”

Not exactly a complete turn around. Seems more like he’s clarifying his previous position more than anything else. I can assure you guys, the PS3 isn’t missing much. Maybe it’s because I’m not a big Valve fan but Left4Dead isn’t nearly as great as it’s reported to be. I won’t be making the mistake of buying the sequel.

And, FWIW…
I’ve got my fingers crossed that TellTale can get their games running on the PS3. To me that would be a much greater move for the system. It looks like they’re open to it!

I’m a huge supporter of these guys ever since they brought Sam and Max back. And now that they’ve got Monkey Island coming back as well… they’re just about walking on water! I’ve been loving going through Sam & Max again on the 360 and I really hope they get this ported over to the PS3 soon for the rest of you. In the meantime, there’s always the PC downloads!
