LittleBigPlanet 2 will play nice with old levels and LBP Demo Coming |

LittleBigPlanet 2

There isn’t an official announcement for LittleBigPlanet 2 just yet. But they said they would love to make one. If they did, all LBP 1 levels will be compatible. One way to go about it is to have a separate planet for LittleBigPlanet 1 levels and another for LittleBigPlanet 2.

“If you look at online distribution for LBP, when the sequel comes along, what do we do with all that content? We can give [consumers] backwards compatibility with those levels.”

Then a demo for LBP is coming, hopefully it has enough content in the demo for users to get hooked and create there own level.

It’s unclear whether any of the almost 2 million user generated levels will be playable in the demo, but it should “capture [the game’s] essence.”

They are still actively working on LittleBigPlanet. So I wouldn’t expect LBP 2 anytime soon. Sounds like they are working on stuff other than new costumes, lol. Like sharing objects with other users.

More additions to the game are also on the way, such as one that was originally planned for the game, but axed along the way — sharing objects in a similar way to sharing levels. So more features — “changing the tools themselves, and changing how you share — are coming.”

Alex Evans wants LittleBigPlanet 2 with backwards compatible levels

I am getting sick and tired of all the costume packs. Costume packs add no value to the game whatsoever. What I want is new levels, and reasonably priced!

  • JimmyMagnum

yeah! I was disappointed to hear the Ghostbusters pack was just costumes and stickers… If they do make a sequel, they should add some new ways of creating things and giving you the ability to shape some objects in 3D! That way, we won’t have, say, monsters that are simply really thick 2D objects. They should also have sub-layers so you can make more details in objects. What I mean is this, looking at an object from a side view:

    [ ][ ][ ]
those are your 3 layers plus the paper-thin layers in between. As far as sub layers go, it’d be like this:
    [ | | ][ | | ][ | | ]
with the lines in the middle representing the sub-layers, or detail layers. Can be used for things like spikes on a monster’s snout or a hood ornament on a car. You should also be able to use it to concave a design as well, essentially allowing you to give an object this appearance:
As for other features, they should have an object template mode, where it guides you through making objects like cars and whatnot, stuff like that. Another nice thing that’d be really cool is expanding the available layers to 4, so levels have more depth, and also giving people the ability to create really detailed and extravagant levels, more so than even the top-notch ones on LBP1 available now. IDK, it’s hard to make a sequel if you don’t add something amazing or make something more advanced…

I hope when I post this, it doesn’t reformat my samples lol

ah man, it kind of did… Let me try this:

    [_____] [_____] [_____]
those are your 3 layers plus the paper-thin layers in between. As far as sub layers go, it’d be like this:
    [__|_|__] ‘[__|_|__] ‘[__|_|__]

    hopefully that works better

  • You get new levels almost everyday. I played a pretty good Smurf level last week, a level inspired by someone’s craving for cookie dough, I still play Distress in the Ocean and the War of the Dragons trilogy levels are good too.

I don’t get why ppl want new levels from MM. The game is based around YOU creating and YOU sharing. MM is just giving you new costumes , stickers and material to expand your level creating abilities and have fun in the process.

It would be so awesome if they introduced the proton blaster into LBP. But, wouldn’t that sway sales away from ghostbusters?

  • Thepreppymonk

@Fleakitten, don’t you want new gameplay mechanics? thats what were raving here.

  • Not personally. I guess MM will spice it up in the second game.

  • Watcher

I agree 100% with Fleakitten. You don’t get new play mechanics in new levels.

The community has been equipped to create every developer item possible in the game right now. If MM introduces new play mechanics (modules) then they will allow the community to create and use them in their own levels as well. Hence we get new levels everyday. You just need to search for some that are up to par with what you’re looking for.

LBP’s potential is in the hands of the community. I’ve played through some really great community material and honestly I think players are getting better and better everyday with the stuff I’m running into.

This might seem strange, but I would like to see new music added. I loved the unique soundtrack the LBP has and I’d like to see what else MM could add too it.

  • Thepreppymonk

Yeah I understand. I’m actually going to buy lbp for the psp, maybe there’ll be some compatibility between the two.
