Wand is “two generations” ahead?
Posted by Trev in PlayStation Eye, PlayStation Move, PS3 on July 21st, 2009
Sony’s Kish Hirani (head of developer services) and Paul Holman (SCEE’s vice president of research and development) were interviewed by Eurogamer and stated how advanced the ‘wand’ is compared to its rivals;
Eurogamer: So the level of precision and accuracy is greater than with motion controllers already on the market, i.e. the Wii remote?
Paul Holman: Oh, totally. It’s another generation forward, or even a couple of generations. I know in certain games or applications which are out there, people had to sort of fluff it to make it real for consumers. But this stuff is super-accurate and the impact of that is incredible. I think you have to play with it to realise what it will do to games.
In the rest of the interview they try to refrain from talking directly about their rivals but i couldn’t help but notice this. Its quite a bold statement and from the demo at E3 it does look like it can hold ground, but it remains to be seen if it is that much better than Microsoft’s Natal or Nintendo’s MotionPlus.
PS3 games MIA.
Two years ago at Sony’s E3 conference, it was announced that Sony had secured an exclusive deal with the Korean MMO developer NCSoft to create games for the PS3. NCSoft is known for games such as Lineage and the soon to be released Aion.

While Aion was never confirmed as one of the games being developed for the PS3, I wish it was. The game looks gorgeous and instead of investing money into upgrading my PC to play it I’d rather play it on my PS3.
The other game mia is Wardevil from Digi-Guys.

This game was announced waaay back at the TGS ’05 with a tech demo shown at E3 ’06. It was originally announced for both the PS3 and 360 but the 360 version was canceled. Since then there has been little to no news, footage, or even a hint at this game releasing anytime this century . In December ’08 it was revealed that WarDevil: Chronicles ( a 2D animation film? ) will be a companion piece to the WarDevil game project.
As an on-and-off Lineage 2 player, I would love to see something like Aion available for the PS3.I hope we’ll hear something soon from NCSoft. As for Wardevil, maybe Digi-Guys is pushing for a PS4 release.
Lemmings to get a Trophy Patch

Cohort Studios has stated that they have been “contracted by SCE to add E-Commerce and Trophies” which probably means new levels along with the trophies.
Reverse Gaming w/ Retro/Grade
Posted by Jay in PLAYSTATION Store, PSN, Retro/Grade on July 20th, 2009
“What the heck is Jimmy talking about?” you’re probably asking. I’m asking that myself as well. There is a game coming to the PSN called Retro/Grade, and it’s a reverse side-scrolling shooter so to speak, and everything is played in reverse…
Yeah, I got lost too, but apparently, it’s more a rhythm game than a shooter. The game is being developed by 24 Caret Games, and this is their first title. According to Matt Gilgenbach, one of the company’s co-founders, this is the premise:
Retro/Grade stars ace fighter pilot Rick Rocket who has just saved the universe. Unfortunately, the massive destruction he left in his wake has caused a temporal anomaly that reversed the flow of time. You must assume control of Rick’s spacecraft and fight through the epic space battle… in reverse!
What’s even weirder, since it all plays in reverse, is the way you play it:
Rick must undo his actions exactly the reverse of the way he performed them in the first place. That means he has to get in the appropriate space lane from which his shot was fired and press the shoot button at the appropriate time. As well, he must avoid blocking the path of the enemy shots as they return to the enemy’s guns. If he blocks their path, it creates a paradox since he is stopping the shot before it was ever fired.
I don’t know about you, but this is one of the weirdest games I’ve heard of, and it’s nice seeing this kind of creativity in the world of over-populated run-of-the-mill genres we’ve become familiar with, and I’m hoping to see this game succeed, because we need this kind of ‘forward’ thinking to keep games from becoming stale. Not to mention, the game was also one of the finalists for the Independent Games Festival. You can check out their official site for a few more videos and information. Original news story from the Official Blog. No word on release date or anything yet, but they said you can follow them on Facebook for news and updates on there as well. What’s your opinion on this?

PSP Go development issues.
Posted by Trev in PLAYSTATION Store, PSN, PSP on July 19th, 2009
iPhone developers Johnny Two Shoes and Firemint were interviewed by Eurogamer and were asked if the PSP Go could compete with Apple iPhone’s App store, they were hesitant of its chances;
“If Sony’s App Store also let you sell games to people with a regular, existing PSP model, that would be a much more attractive prospect,” he says.
“There are nearly 50 million of those out there already. Even if you only sold to a fraction of one percent of those people, it’s a significant number of sales. And even if the PSPgo sells great from day one, it’s going to take a long time before it starts getting anywhere near those numbers.”
It seems the PSP Go could have a tough start against an established competitor (sound familiar?) but in time prove successful. I guess only time will tell…

That’s 33 new articles this week! Last week, we had 18. We totally killed that record! Again, these don’t include store updates, last week’s Weekly Recap or QuickNews. As for other things, I give up! Once again, Eddie receives the much sought-after ‘Contributor of the Week’ title with 10 entries. Good job!
Emrah also get’s the ‘Comment of the Week’, only because he made me laugh so hard. It was a comment left in this article, and read:
First see-through nipple I’ve seen on ps3blog.
If you missed it, the picture used in the original posting was borderline inappropriate. You were able to see through the top she was wearing (though barely), revealing, well, the body part mentioned above. It was a good laugh though!
For past Weekly Recaps, you can view the archive here. You know, in case you missed it and/or you want to see what other stories you missed.
